Job description

SubsidiarySteel DynamicsOverview

The Steel Dynamics Sales EDGE (Education, Development, Growth, & Execution) program is a one-year rotational development program designed to prepare college graduates for long-term careers within the commercial organization. Sales EDGE Trainees are full-time employees who gain hands-on experience in sales, customer service, market analysis, and steel operations through structured training and exposure across Steel Dynamics. Sales EDGE Trainees may be selected for placement within either the Long Products or Flat Roll division of the Steel Platform. Throughout the program, trainees will travel to Steel Dynamics locations and customer sites, build relationships with experienced industry professionals, and develop a strong understanding of our products, customers, markets, and internal systems. Upon successful completion of the program, Sales EDGE Trainees may transition into roles such as Inside Sales Representative or Customer Service Representative, with opportunities for continued growth within the commercial organization.

If you are a senior in university, a recent graduate, or someone with a degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, or a related field interested in training in a new industry, this may be a great opportunity for you! Selected applicants will begin the training program in June of 2027. 

Interview Process

This is a full-time, non-exempt position that is eligible for full-time benefits.

Steel Dynamics accepts applications for the Sales EDGE Program annually from September 1st through November 1st. The hiring team will review applications and schedule interviews throughout November, with interviews taking place in December. 

  • September 1st, 2026 - Application Period Opens
  • November 1st, 2026 - Application Period Closes
  • November 1st to December 1st, 2026 - Resume Review and Interview Scheduling
  • December 7th to December 11th, 2026 - Interview Week
  • December 2026 to January 2027 - Offers Extended
  • June 1st, 2027 - Program Orientation

Program Structure

Sales EDGE Program Mentor (Entire Program)

Each participant is assigned a Sales EDGE Program Mentor who provides ongoing development guidance, monitors progress throughout the program, and supports final placement decisions. The mentor focuses on the participant's long-term career development rather than daily work.

Rotation Mentor (Each Assignment)

A Rotation Mentor provides day-to-day training, guidance, and feedback during each assignment and completes a structured evaluation at the end of the rotation.

Students will receive evaluations after each rotation. Permanent placement into a non-training role is typically expected within one year of starting the program. Placement timing and location will depend on business needs, available opportunities, and the trainee's skills, performance, and career interests.

Work Location & Sponsorship

This is an in-person position stationed in Northeast Indiana with required, paid travel to other Steel Dynamics and customer locations.

Steel Dynamics will not provide sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future for this role. This includes, but is not limited to, F-1 STEM OPT, H-1B, TN, E-3, O-1, or any other work authorization that requires company sponsorship or the submission of immigration-related documentation to a government agency. Responsibilities

What are My Responsibilities as a Steel Dynamics Sales EDGE Trainee?

Travel to Steel Dynamics mills, divisions, and customer locations to develop a broad understanding of the steel industry and our commercial operations. Build knowledge of Steel Dynamics' products, manufacturing processes, customers, and markets. Work alongside sales, customer service, operations, and other cross-functional teams. Develop strong relationships with customers, team members, and leaders across the organization. Analyze market trends, customer needs, and business information to support commercial decision-making. Participate in job shadowing, training, and mentorship opportunities with experienced industry professionals. Demonstrate the ability to work independently, adapt quickly, and take initiative in a fast-paced environment. Complete assigned projects and other responsibilities that support the development of commercial knowledge and business readiness. Be open to placement within the Flat Roll or Long Products division based on business needs and available opportunities.

Qualifications

What is Required to be a Steel Dynamics Sales EDGE Trainee? Bachelor's degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, or a related field. Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills. Demonstrated initiative, independence, and willingness to learn. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the training program. Willingness to relocate or accept placement at a Steel Dynamics location based on business needs.
