What is a Network Engineer Mikrotik?

A Network Engineer Mikrotik is a specialized IT professional responsible for designing, configuring, and maintaining computer networks using Mikrotik hardware and RouterOS software. They often work with routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless equipment manufactured by Mikrotik to ensure network stability, security, and optimal performance. Their tasks include network troubleshooting, implementing security policies, configuring VPNs, and supporting network scalability. These engineers are typically employed by ISPs, businesses, or organizations that rely on Mikrotik solutions for their networking needs.

What are the most common challenges faced by Network Engineers working with Mikrotik devices, and how can they be addressed?

Network Engineers specializing in Mikrotik often encounter challenges such as configuring advanced routing protocols, optimizing network performance, and ensuring security across diverse environments. Managing firmware updates and compatibility can also be a concern, particularly in large or mixed-vendor networks. Staying up-to-date with Mikrotik's RouterOS features, participating in user communities, and leveraging thorough documentation are effective ways to overcome these challenges. Collaborating closely with other IT teams, such as systems administrators and security specialists, is also key to maintaining a robust and efficient network.

At Omni Fiber, we're building the future of fiber internet with fast, reliable, and future-ready broadband solutions for the communities we serve. We're looking for a highly skilled Senior Network Architect to help design, optimize, and support the backbone of our growing network infrastructure.

If you thrive in a fast-paced ISP environment, enjoy solving complex technical challenges, and want to make a direct impact on a rapidly expanding fiber network, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

  • Architecture & Design: Design, implement, and evolve scalable FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) architectures and broadband backbone network infrastructure.
  • Technology & Infrastructure: Lead the deployment, optimization, and scaling of XGS-PON technologies, routing, transport, and peering environments.
  • Product Improvement & Research: Evaluate emerging industry trends and technologies; conduct technical research to drive continuous product improvements and network lifecycle enhancements.
  • Vendor Management: Partner closely with hardware, software, and technology vendors to evaluate equipment, manage roadmaps, negotiate technical specifications, and ensure successful platform integration.
  • Advanced Escalation: Provide Tier 3 escalation support for critical network, XGS-PON, and backbone performance issues.
  • Standards & Testing: Perform testing, validation, and proof-of-concept benchmarks for new hardware, platforms, and configurations. Develop robust network standards, engineering templates, and operational best practices.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Engineering, Product, Operations, and the NOC to support network growth, reliability, and service delivery.
  • Leadership: Mentor engineers and provide advanced technical leadership across the organization.
  • Operations Support: Support maintenance windows, limited on-call activities, and operational escalations as needed.

What We're Looking For

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 5–10 years of experience in network engineering, architecture, or ISP operations.
  • Core Technical Expertise: Strong expertise with XGS-PON/FTTH technologies, BGP, MPLS, OSPF/IS-IS, IPv6, and NAT/CG-NAT (with a working knowledge of VPN and transport technologies).
  • ISP Frameworks: Deep experience with broadband service provider networks, access architectures, and core backbone infrastructure.
  • Platform Knowledge: Hands-on knowledge of routing, switching, fiber transport, peering, and subscriber management technologies across platforms such as Nokia, Cisco, Juniper, MikroTik, or similar.
  • Business & Vendor Acumen: Proven experience participating in vendor evaluation, management, and driving technical requirements with external partners.
  • Soft Skills: Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and documentation skills, with the ability to independently lead complex technical initiatives from research to deployment.
