Description
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is seeking a highly experienced Network Engineer to perform a comprehensive assessment, stabilization, and optimization of its enterprise network infrastructure.
This role is intended for a level Cisco expert with deep engineering and architectural experience. The selected consultant will quickly immerse themselves in an existing environment, independently evaluate network health and operational maturity, identify hidden risks and deficiencies, resolve critical issues, and provide strategic recommendations for long-term improvements.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader who can step into a complex enterprise environment with minimal ramp-up time and immediately provide value through expert analysis, troubleshooting, and remediation.
This position will work alongside the existing network engineering team and serve as the highest-level networking resource within the organization reporting directly to the interim CIO.
Within the first few weeks, this individual should be able to:
Assess the overall health of the enterprise network.
Identify architectural weaknesses, configuration issues, and operational risks.
Review existing Cisco infrastructure and provide actionable recommendations.
Troubleshoot and resolve critical networking challenges.
Deliver a prioritized roadmap for improving stability, performance, security, and scalability.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to existing infrastructure resources.
Key Responsibilities
Network Assessment & Optimization
Perform a comprehensive analysis of the existing network infrastructure.
Evaluate network performance, resiliency, security posture, and scalability.
Conduct detailed reviews of network architecture, configurations, and operational processes.
Identify technical debt, misconfigurations, single points of failure, and performance bottlenecks.
Develop remediation plans and long-term improvement strategies.
Enterprise Networking
Design, implement, support, and optimize enterprise network environments.
Configure and support Cisco routing and switching infrastructure.
Troubleshoot complex Layer 2, Layer 3, WAN, wireless, and security issues.
Support network segmentation, redundancy, failover, and high-availability architectures.
Lead root cause analysis activities and document findings and recommendations.
Security & Access Management
Administer and optimize Cisco security solutions.
Review firewall policies, VPN configurations, segmentation strategies, and access controls.
Evaluate network security architecture and recommend improvements.
Support compliance and security best practices.
Wireless & Data Center Infrastructure
Support enterprise wireless networks and controller-based deployments.
Evaluate and optimize data center networking environments.
Troubleshoot connectivity, performance, and wireless coverage issues.
Strategic Infrastructure Planning
Provide architecture-level recommendations and modernization strategies.
Assist leadership with technology planning and infrastructure roadmaps.
Evaluate future-state solutions and emerging technologies.
Develop standards, documentation, and operational best practices.
