Job Summary

As a Sr. Technical Marketing Engineer (TME) at NetApp, you will own technical marketing end-to-end for one or more assigned technology areas within the NetApp portfolio. You will define the technical narrative, value proposition with accompanying claims, and competitive story for integrated solutions that solve customer challenges using one or more NetApp products and potentially partner products. You will do so working side-by-side with Product Marketers, Solution Marketers, and our Competitive Intelligence team as part of the Integrated Product & Platform Marketing (IPPM) team at NetApp, and in partnership with Product Managers and Engineers in one or more NetApp business units that also report to our Chief
Product Officer.

While you won't be writing production code and you won't be in a support role, you will be expected to develop a deep hand-on understanding of your product by partnering from its inception by Product Management and development by Engineering all the way through to general availability, so that you can be the expert on its functionality for all outbound functions and demonstrate what the product can do at its best to the world at large.
TMEs produce consistent, high-quality technical content, including technical reports, white papers, proof of concepts, reference architectures, proof of concept guides, and more. You'll build and curate integrated solution demos using the latest AI-enabled demo creation tools, and partner with other NetApp teams to build an integrated technology stack to make appropriate demos easily findable and usable by our sales teams, partners, and end-customers, while collecting engagement metrics and continuous feedback for improvement.
The best TMEs are also highly visible within NetApp and the industry. You will represent NetApp and your assigned technologies at conferences, in webinars, in videos/podcasts, and on social media as a trusted technical subject matter expert. As your work will expose you to our sales organization and customers you will help translate input from those audiences into insights to provide to Product Management.

Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Product Management and Engineering across the product lifecycle to build your expert-level understanding of one or more NetApp products and solutions, their place in the NetApp portfolio, how they integrate with technical partner solutions, and most importantly how they solve important customer challenges.
  • Own technical marketing end-to-end for assigned technology area(s) on one or more specific technical topics; integrate technical narrative into overall product and solutions narrative as defined by Product Marketing Managers, create claims and proof of value, and the competitive story for integrated solutions.
  • Design and maintain self-service interactive assets (demos, sandboxes, TCO/ROI calculators, interactive guides); work with cross-functional marketing and sales enablement teams to embed within customer-facing content and sales tools and instrument these assets to gauge usefulness & impact.
  • Produce consistent technical content and enablement: solution briefs, whitepapers, blogs, videos, technical talk tracks, demo scripts, and advanced technical enablement (RFP/RFI inputs).
  • Create integration deep dives and "how-to" videos that demonstrate how our technology integrates with partner ecosystems and solves specific customer problems - but not formal product documentation.
  • As needed, utilize basic scripting and/or common automation toolkits (e.g. Python, Ansible, Terraform, etc.) to demonstrate features and integrations and to enable customers to replicate scenarios. You will not develop or distribute code for customer use in production environments.
  • Act as a technical subject matter expert in webinars and virtual events; evangelize NetApp and assigned technologies at conferences, in videos, and on social media with clear, compelling technical storytelling.
  • Synthesize input from customers and sales teams obtained during work as a technical SME, provide as input to Product Management for ongoing product development.
  • Provide input and content for technical education curricula in partnership with Revenue Enablement; while you will not own or develop training curriculum or materials directly for internal or external audiences, you will act as a subject-matter expert and assist in ensuring messaging embedded in the training is aligned with the approved technical narrative for the products involved.
  • Measure and report asset utilization and impact; drive continuous improvement of deliverables based on data and field insights.
Requirements
  • 12 + years in technical marketing, sales engineering, solutions architecture, developer relations, or related roles.
  • Demonstrated expert-level understanding in one or more enterprise technology areas, as a proof point of ability to attain expert understanding of additional technology areas. Note that it is not required that a candidate have specific existing expertise on NetApp technologies or the data infrastructure market, but any such expertise is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft technical narratives, value proof, and competitive positioning for integrated solutions.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and storytelling skills; customer-centric mindset with a bias for action and continuous improvement.
  • Proven experience building and managing demos and showcase environments at scale, including demo catalogs, sandboxes, and self-service experiences. Familiarity with modern AI-enabled demo-creation tools and/or integration into GTM tools is highly desired.
  • Strong content creation skills across written and video formats: solution briefs, whitepapers, blogs, videos, talk tracks, battlecards, and demo scripts; rigorous attention to consistency and detail.
  • Comfortable as a public speaker and on-camera presenter; capable of engaging technical and executive audiences across conferences, webinars, and social media.
  • Hands-on proficiency with basic scripting and automation to demonstrate product features and integrations (e.g., Python, PowerShell/Bash, Ansible, Terraform, etc.)
  • Facility with competitive/alternatives analysis and building data-backed, testable claims.
  • Strong collaboration and program management skills; able to coordinate cross-functionally with Product Management, Engineering, Sales, and the broader Integrated Product &n Portfolio Marketing organization; manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related technical field (or additional equivalent applied and practical technical experience).
  • Or, A Master's degree in a technical field as listed above, with less equivalent experience as stated above.
