Job description

Job Title: COLLEGE & CAREER SUPPORT SPECIALIST Reports to: Principal FLSA status: Non-Exempt Supervisor duties: none Classification: TBD 10 month Approved on: July 13, 2021 Position Summary: Provides and assists students and families with College & Career support with the following (e.g. college & career advisement, college applications, career technical school application, scholarships search & applications, college, financial aid search, FAFSA Completion, Naviance tasks and activities)
 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:           

  • Works cooperatively and maintains effective relationships with students, parents, district personnel, the general public, and college and Chapter representatives.
  • Provides college and career support to families when requested.
  • Assists Counseling Department throughout the year with the following (e.g. reviews ECAP tasks completion, capture future college and career plans, complies college acceptance data, compiles scholarship awards data, collects post-grad career data, college readiness testing).
  • Schedule, advertise, coordinate college and career related events throughout the year (e.g. college visits, military visits, career specialty visits, FAFSA events, financial aid events, other college and career informational events, as well as opportunities provided by the Navajo Nation and local Chapters).
  • Create weekly email communications to students and families through Naviance to notify them of upcoming college visits, career and technical visits, and newly available scholarships.
  • Manage and update their school's College and Career Center webpage. On the webpage they will communicate and inform the school community of the following (e.g. College & Career Center information and details, College & Career Visits, Scholarship Deadlines, upcoming College Readiness Assessments (ACT, Pre-ACT, SAT, PSAT), FAFSA information, upcoming College and Career Events, Financial Aid Information, Internship Opportunities, Summer Enrichment Opportunities, Early College Information, (e.g., DE, CTE, AP, AVID).
  • Senior Award Information (e.g. collect and confirm senior award information entered into Naviance).
  • Attends school events throughout the school year.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees (e.g. university/college information session, class visits, community service group meetings, school and college committees, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
  • Research educational and/or career opportunities for the purpose of providing students with information on educational and/or career opportunities.
  • Monitors student activities in the Career Center for the purpose of providing a safe and positive environment.
  • Participates with academic planning as it relates to course scheduling processes and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Performs general clerical tasks for the purpose of supporting the counseling department within the school site.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include operating standard office equipment; and utilizing pertinent software applications (Naviance/Family Connection and Infinite Campus); customer service; screening telephone calls; classifying data and/or information; promoting activities and/or events.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include the following: business telephone etiquette; office practices; recordkeeping and record retention practices; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintaining confidentiality; adapting to changing priorities; working with frequent interruptions; communicating with diverse groups; and displaying tact and courtesy; organizing tasks; accuracy and attention to detail; meeting deadlines and schedules.

High School Diploma or Equivalent - Required
Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Computer Proficiency:  MS Office Suite, Google Suite
