About us!

Vanderweil Engineers is a nationally recognized, top-ranked engineering firm specializing in MEP/FP, power, sustainability and technology services. For over 75 years, we've delivered innovative solutions across diverse sectors, including Science & Technology, Mission Critical, Academic, Healthcare, and Commercial.

As one of the largest independently owned engineering firms in the U.S., our team of 500+ professionals operates from nine offices nationwide, bringing deep expertise and a commitment to excellence to every project.

We prioritize our team members’ professional development and physical and behavioral health. We operate on a hybrid work schedule with 3 days per week of in-person work, with the goal of providing both flexibility and in person exposure to industry experts.

Role

We seek a Director of Recruiting to lead Vanderweil’s overall recruiting efforts, including management of our internal recruiting team, while specializing in sourcing and placing top talent for strategic technical, management and leadership roles across the firm.

The ideal candidate will bring relevant industry knowledge and a strong industry network within the MEP/FP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection) engineering industry, along with significant recruiting and management experience. This position reports to the CFO and will include regular interaction with senior leadership of the firm.

Some of your responsibilities include the following:

  • Responsible for specialized hands-on recruiting of senior technical engineers, senior project managers, group leaders and department heads in the MEP/FP industry.
  • Partner with senior management to assess hiring needs, define role requirements, and develop targeted job descriptions and hiring strategies.
  • Source exceptional candidates through multiple channels, including direct outreach, job boards, social media, industry events, employee referrals, and networking.
  • Direct the recruiting function including management and development of members of our high performing corporate recruitment staff.
  • As needed, manage external recruiting firms’ efforts
  • Screen, interview, and evaluate candidates, providing detailed assessments to hiring managers and senior management.
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of top tier talent for current and future hiring needs.
  • Serve as a brand ambassador, promoting Vanderweil’s values and culture with professionalism.

Essential Skills & Requirements:

  • 12+ years of recruiting experience in the MEP/FP or AEC industry, with an understanding of engineering roles and technical requirements.
  • Minimum of 5 years in leadership and/or management.
  • Demonstrated success in sourcing and placing senior-level talent in competitive markets.
  • Extensive network with growth potential.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Strong decision making, problem solving and strategic thinking ability.
  • High energy and passion with a results driven mindset.
  • We prefer the Director of Recruiting work from our Boston headquarters, but we will consider our satellite offices for exceptional candidates.
  • Limited travel may be required.

Compensation

Total compensation we expect for this position depends on education, geographic location, industry experience, and leadership success, and is expected to be in the $150,000 to $200,000 range, plus incentive bonuses.
