What does a move in coordinator do?

A Move In Coordinator is responsible for managing and facilitating the process of new tenants or residents moving into a property. They coordinate logistics such as scheduling move-in dates, conducting walkthroughs, preparing necessary documentation, and ensuring that units are ready and compliant with leasing standards. Additionally, Move In Coordinators often serve as the primary point of contact for new residents, addressing questions and providing them with important information about their new home. Their goal is to ensure a smooth and positive transition for everyone involved.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a move in coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Move In Coordinator, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience in property management or customer service, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with property management software, scheduling tools, and CRM systems is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and a customer-centric attitude help you effectively manage tenant expectations and resolve issues. These skills ensure smooth transitions for new residents, enhance tenant satisfaction, and contribute to efficient property operations.

What are the main challenges a move in coordinator faces when managing multiple tenant move-ins simultaneously?

Move In Coordinators often juggle multiple move-ins at once, which can be challenging due to overlapping schedules, varying tenant needs, and coordination with maintenance, leasing, and cleaning teams. Effective communication, strong organizational skills, and the ability to quickly problem-solve are crucial to ensure a smooth transition for each new resident. Being proactive in addressing potential issues, such as last-minute repairs or documentation delays, helps minimize disruptions and maintains a positive move-in experience for all parties involved.

About Moyer Move Management:
Moyer Move Management is a family-owned business that’s three generations strong, serving the Greater Washington, DC – Baltimore Metro area. We’re a growing company with deep Maryland roots and a small-business feel — not a corporation. We help older adults and families navigate major life transitions — downsizing, relocating, and moving into senior living communities — with the kind of care and attention you’d expect from someone moving their own family. White-glove service isn’t an upgrade for us; it’s our standard. When our clients are in the middle of one of life’s biggest changes, our promise is simple: our family has your family covered. The people who join our team share that same commitment to doing right by every client we serve. Our team is dispersed but deeply connected — a caring, compassionate group of remote and hybrid professionals who show up for each other and for every client, no matter where they’re working from. If that sounds like you, we’d love to meet you.

Job Description:

Be the calm, steady hand that turns moving day chaos into a seamless experience.
If you thrive on bringing order to chaos and love being the person everyone counts on to keep a big day running smoothly, this role may be a fit for you! We’re looking for a highly organized, client-focused Senior Transition Coordinator who can take full ownership of a move from the first walkthrough to the final box is unpacked. You’ll lead the crew, advocate for the client, and make sure every move is executed exactly the way it was promised. This is a hands-on, field-based role in the Washington, DC–Baltimore Metro area requiring local availability and reliable transportation.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Coordinate and execute residential and commercial moves from start to finish
  • Serve as the lead point of contact for clients on assigned jobs, including pre-move planning and move day
  • Supervise and direct move management crews and vendors onsite
  • Conduct pre-move assessments and post-move walkthroughs with clients
  • Manage inventory, packing logistics, and special-handling items
  • Coordinate with building management and move-in coordinators to ensure compliance with building requirements onsite
  • Resolve issues and escalations quickly and professionally
  • Maintain accurate documentation and client records
What It Takes to Succeed:
  • Grace under pressure — You maintain professionalism and a client-centered approach even when others around you are frustrated
  • Proven leadership experience — 1–2+ years in move management or relocation coordination, with experience directing crews or teams
  • Strong communication — You keep clients, crews, and vendors on the same page, even when something doesn’t go as planned
  • On-the-road and physical readiness — Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, availability for three or more consecutive days per week, and ability to lift at least 25 pounds in active environments
  • Tech-savvy — Proficient with move management software and comfortable learning new systems
Apply If:
You love being the person who makes a complicated moving day look effortless, and you take pride in leaving every client — and their new space — better than you found them.
