Your New Role...
CNN is seeking an experienced Motion Graphics Designer to help bring journalism to life through dynamic visual storytelling across video, digital, streaming and social platforms.
This role partners closely with producers, editors, and editorial teams to craft compelling motion graphics for a wide range of formats - including digital series, explainers, video podcasts, breaking news coverage and long-form storytelling.
The ideal candidate combines strong design and animation expertise with editorial judgment, speed, and the ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging visuals.
Your Role Accountabilities...
  • Design and animate motion graphics for digital video, social platforms, streaming content and video podcasts
  • Collaborate with producers, editors and creative leads to develop strong visual approaches to stories
  • Translate scripts, reporting, and data into clear, accurate visual narratives
  • Execute projects across varying timelines - from same-day breaking news turnarounds to longer-term feature work
  • Produce high-quality animations under tight deadlines
  • Create templates, toolkits, and reusable animation systems for recurring franchises and multi-platform distribution
  • Design and build MOGRTs to enable scalable graphics workflows for editors and producers
  • Maintain CNN's visual standards and brand consistency
  • Contribute to the visual style development of new shows, series and editorial initiatives

Qualifications & Experience...
  • 3-6+ years of professional motion graphics experience in news, media, production or digital storytelling
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly After Effects, Premiere Pro, Illustrator and Photoshop. 3D animation experience a plus.
  • Strong expertise in After Effects expressions, scripting and templating assets as MOGRT files
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas clearly through motion and design
  • Experience working in fast-paced editorial or production environments
  • Strong design fundamentals (typography, color, composition)
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Experience with data visualization and infographic animation
  • Familiarity with mapping principles and tools such as GEOlayers, Mapbox and Google Earth Studio
  • Experience creating and optimizing graphics for social video, streaming platforms and video podcasts
  • Must be willing to work early mornings, late nights and weekends as needed for news coverage and deadlines
