Job description

Job Summary
Qualifications and Education
High School diploma or GED.
AA degree, or 48 college units, or pass CODESP test.
Any combination of successful qualifying experience and training that would provide the
required knowledge and skill. A typical way to meet this requirement would be one year paid or
volunteer experience working with children of various ages in a learning environment.
Valid California driver's license.
Training or coursework in child growth and development, special education, instructional
technology, or a closely related field is preferred.
Bilingual in English and Spanish desired.
Placement as Preschool Instructional Assistant requires completion of 6 semester units of ECE
course work within 12 months of placement.
Food Handler Permit may be required.
Synopsis of Position
Under general supervision, preschool instructional assistants perform a variety of instructional activities;
assist in the training and learning activities of preschool children or children with special learning needs;
provide for the personal and medical needs of students; perform a variety of routine clerical and
supportive activities for instructional personnel; and perform other related work as required.
Knowledge and Ability to:
Use appropriate English language, punctuation, spelling and grammar.
Basic mathematical concepts.
Basic concepts of child growth and development.
Behavior management strategies and techniques for students with atypical behavior.
Routine record storage, retrieval, and management procedures.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults.
Function as a productive team member and interact positively with staff members and parents.
Maintain confidentiality of information pertaining to students and their families.
Respect and show appropriate consideration for age, gender, cultural/linguistic background
related factors when providing services.
