Job description

Are you energized by building new things from scratch — not just one product, but two, in parallel, across the platforms lawyers rely on most? Do you thrive leading engineering teams delivering polished, native experiences on both mobile and desktop, while keeping a coherent product vision across surfaces? If so, this is an exceptional opportunity to shape how CoCounsel Legal reaches lawyers everywhere they work. As Manager of Software Engineering for the CoCounsel Legal Mobile & Desktop Apps, you will lead the engineering teams building CoCounsel Legal's presence on iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac. Both are greenfield products: you will help define the architecture, hire the teams, and deliver CoCounsel Legal’s first native mobile and desktop experiences, reporting to the Head of Engineering for CoCounsel Legal.

About the Role

In this opportunity as CoCounsel Legal Mobile & Desktop Apps, you will: Lead and grow two engineering teams — Mobile and Desktop — hiring and developing engineers across both platforms from the ground up. Foster a high-performance, inclusive culture and ensure the teams collaborate closely to deliver a coherent cross-platform product. Define the engineering approach for both mobile and desktop, making foundational technology choices (native vs. cross-platform for mobile; Electron, Tauri, or native for desktop), architecture patterns, and development practices that will shape the products for years to come. Deliver CoCounsel Legal’s first mobile and desktop applications, collaborating closely with Product and Design to ship high-quality, accessible experiences that bring core CoCounsel AI capabilities to iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac users. Integrate deeply with the CoCounsel backend, working with Agent Core and AI Platform teams to surface agent capabilities, file and workspace access, and user context seamlessly across mobile and desktop surfaces. Own quality, performance, and reliability across both platforms, establishing standards for testing, CI/CD, crash reporting, performance monitoring, and cross-platform (Windows/Mac, iOS/Android) compatibility. Partner across the Application Experience pillar, working with web and integrations teams to ensure CoCounsel Legal delivers a coherent, consistent product experience across all surfaces. Represent mobile and desktop engineering perspectives, contributing to planning and prioritization discussions with Product, Design, and senior engineering leadership.

About You

You’re a fit for the role of CoCounsel Legal Mobile & Desktop Apps if your background includes: 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years leading or managing engineering teams. Hands-on experience shipping production mobile (iOS and/or Android) or desktop (Windows and/or macOS) applications in a professional or enterprise context. Understanding of both mobile and desktop engineering challenges — platform conventions, architecture patterns, distribution, and performance expectations. Proven ability to hire, develop, and retain strong engineers across multiple teams or workstreams. Experience integrating applications with cloud backends and REST/GraphQL APIs, including streaming and authentication flows. Strong collaboration skills — comfortable working across product, design, and backend engineering teams. Clear communicator who can translate platform constraints and opportunities into actionable product decisions. Additional preferred qualifications include: Hands-on experience with both mobile and desktop platforms — ideally shipped to production on each. Experience with cross-platform frameworks (e.g., React Native, Flutter, Electron, Tauri) and understanding of when to use them vs. native approaches. Background in legal tech, productivity software, or professional-services SaaS products. Familiarity with AI-powered features in native apps — streaming chat, voice input, local context-aware actions. Experience with enterprise deployment patterns for mobile (MDM, SSO) and desktop (MSI/PKG packaging, app configuration).
