What is a mid level developer?

Mid Level Developers are software professionals who have gained several years of experience beyond entry-level positions and are proficient in coding, debugging, and collaborating on projects. They possess a strong understanding of programming languages, frameworks, and software development processes. Mid Level Developers often take on more responsibility than junior developers, such as mentoring newer team members, contributing to architectural decisions, and ensuring code quality. They are expected to work independently on tasks, communicate effectively with team members, and deliver reliable solutions to complex problems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mid level developer?

To thrive as a Mid Level Developer, you need solid programming skills in languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript, along with a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, integrated development environments (IDEs), and frameworks such as React or Spring Boot is typically required. Effective problem-solving, teamwork, and strong communication skills help you collaborate and adapt to project needs. These abilities ensure you can deliver reliable code, work smoothly with colleagues, and contribute to successful software projects.

What opportunities for professional growth can a mid level developer typically expect within a software development team?

Many organizations support growth through peer code reviews, access to learning resources, and the chance to participate in architectural discussions. Advancement paths often include moving toward senior developer roles, technical leads, or specializing in areas like DevOps or security, depending on your interests and the company's needs.

*About Saginaw Power & Automation*
Saginaw Power & Automation (SPA) is a growing engineering and systems integration firm headquartered in Saginaw, Minnesota. Since 2014, we have provided electrical engineering, power systems, automation, controls, commissioning, and engineered solutions for industrial clients throughout the United States.
Our team includes Professional Engineers, Engineers-in-Training, project managers, designers, technicians, and support staff working together to deliver practical, field-proven solutions. As an employee-owned company with approximately 40 employees, SPA offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on projects, clients, and company growth while avoiding the bureaucracy often associated with larger engineering firms. We serve clients in the oil & gas, energy, mining, utility, manufacturing, and municipal sectors throughout the United States.
At SPA, engineers do more than produce drawings and calculations. Our team is actively involved from project conception through startup, working directly with clients, vendors, contractors, and field personnel to deliver successful projects. This level of involvement provides broad technical exposure, accelerated professional growth, and the chance to see the real-world results of your work from beginning to end.

* Support procurement, construction, and project execution efforts.
* Mentor junior engineers, EITs, designers, and technicians.

* Strong organizational and project management abilities.
* Ability to independently manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
* Experience working directly with industrial clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
* Willingness to travel periodically (typically 20-30%) throughout the United States for client meetings, field verification, commissioning, and project support.
