Job Title: Industrial Millwright Mechanic – 3rd Shift

Location: Thomaston, GA

Job Description

This Industrial Millwright Mechanic role is a night shift position based in Thomaston, Georgia, responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving industrial equipment throughout the mill to support safe, reliable, and efficient production operations. You will work with a wide range of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, ensuring equipment uptime and addressing issues quickly while following strict safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial equipment throughout the mill to support safe and efficient production.
  • Inspect, maintain, and replace bearings, drivers, roller chains, sprockets, and related components.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Read and interpret equipment drawings and blueprints to plan and execute repairs and installations.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance tasks to minimize unplanned downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Cut, weld, and perform fabrication work using different types of steel to repair or modify equipment as needed.
  • Determine shaft sizes, perform precise measurements, and build or replace shafts to specification.
  • Recognize worn or damaged components and replace chains, bearings, sprockets, and other parts as required.
  • Strictly adhere to an absolute lock-out policy by shutting off power sources, locking out equipment, and testing to confirm isolation before starting work.
  • Submit work requests and accurately complete work orders to document maintenance activities and repairs.
  • Work safely at heights and in physically demanding conditions while following all site safety procedures.
  • Perform physical tasks including walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds as part of daily duties.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience as an industrial millwright, industrial mechanic, or similar maintenance role in a mill or heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining and replacing bearings, roller chains, drivers, sprockets, and related power transmission components.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Proficiency in welding, cutting, and steel fabrication for equipment repair and modification.
  • Ability to determine shaft sizes, take accurate measurements, and build or replace shafts to specification.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, including strict adherence to lock-out/tag-out procedures.
  • Capability to complete work orders and submit work requests clearly and accurately.
  • Physical ability to walk, stand, sit, climb stairs, bend, work at heights, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness and ability to work night shift hours (3rd shift: 5:30 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.).

Work Environment

This role is based in a mill environment that is non-climate-controlled, hot, dirty, and physically demanding. You will work primarily on the night shift (3rd shift), with typical hours from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The work involves frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as working at heights and around heavy industrial machinery. You will regularly use tools and equipment related to mechanical maintenance, welding, fabrication, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Safety protocols, including strict lock-out/tag-out procedures, are a core part of the daily work environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $40.00/hr.
