Job description

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of a trained and seasoned machinist, the Machinist Apprentice will learn each area within Stolle – Canton Tool to become a well-rounded mill and lathe machinist.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES include:
• Works with seasoned machinists to learn all aspects of machine shop, generally over a four-year apprenticeship period.
• Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, materials, specifications, locations of surfaces and machining parameters, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
• Programs lathes and mills by entering instructions including zero and reference points, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, calculating requirements including basic math, geometry and trigonometry proving part programs.
• Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part and sample work pieces adhering to international standards.
• Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving and cutting including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations, taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, adjusting and reprogramming controls, replacing worn tools,adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
• Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
• Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.
• Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
• Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
• Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Minimal requirements for education, knowledge and experience:
o High School Diploma/GED
• Must be willing to work toward an apprenticeship or Stolle-approved courses for the Machinist Apprenticeship.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: This position requires the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in the following environment:
• Work schedule generally consists of 40 hours per week and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Work Schedule may also require nights or a rotating shift.
• Overtime will be required as needed.
