Technical Writer
Yorktown, VA
ORBIS is seeking a Technical Writer to work on-site at the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown, VA in support of our RADIAC and RADCON Professional Services Contract. The Technical Writer will be assigned to the RADIAC ISEA and will be responsible for developing technical content for Technical Manuals, Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM), Repair Standards, Preventive Maintenance Procedures, Policy Manuals and other documents in accordance with Technical Manual Contract Requirements (TMCRs) and Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) policies and standards. Additional responsibilities include:
  • Reviewing applicable ANSI and Military Standards and applying requirements appropriately into procedures.
  • Review and accurately interpret technical data such as drawings, functional diagrams, wiring diagrams and specifications associated with electronic equipment.
  • Reviewing and editing Technical Manuals, IETMs, and Repair Standards acquired with new equipment.
  • Performing procedure verification and validation, which includes performing operations with and maintenance checks on radiation detection instruments.
  • Additional duties commensurate with experience in support of the RADIAC ISEA mission.

Requirements:
  • US Citizen with Secret Security Clearance
  • Associates Degree in a related technical field or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 5 years of experience technical writing or related work in a technical field.
  • Detail oriented. Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to grasp technical concepts and explain them in an easy-to-understand way.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word (including some advanced features), Adobe Professional and developing content in SGML/XML Format.
  • Familiarity with basic tools for editing graphics and illustrations.
