Job Description

AECOM is seeking an experienced Mid-Level Structural Engineer (Structural Engineer IV) to join our Energy team. This role is intended for a senior engineer who is ready to take the next step into technical and project leadership, contributing to the delivery of complex energy infrastructure and industrial projects.

This is a hybrid position, combining office and remote work.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical fundamentals and a proactive mindset, with the ability to take ownership of engineering scope, support project execution, and progressively grow into a lead engineering role.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Engineering Delivery
    • Perform and support civil and structural design for mid- to large-scale projects.
    • Contribute to engineering studies, calculations, specifications, and design deliverables.
  2. Emerging Technical Leadership
    • Take ownership of defined scopes or packages within a project.
    • Support the Lead Engineer or Project Engineering Manager in coordinating technical activities.
    • Begin leading small teams or discrete workstreams as opportunities arise.
  3. Quality & Coordination
    • Perform quality checks on own work and support reviews of work developed by others.
    • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment and integration of design.
  4. Client & Project Interface
    • Participate in technical discussions with clients and internal stakeholders.
    • Support the preparation and presentation of technical solutions.
  5. Project & Proposal Support
    • Contribute to proposals, including scope definition, quantity take-offs, and engineering input to schedules and budgets.
  6. Professional Growth
    • Demonstrate initiative in developing leadership capabilities and expanding technical responsibility.
    • Support and collaborate with junior engineers as part of team development.
Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS in Civil or Structural Engineering + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), or EIT with plan to obtain PE
  • Valid U.S Driver's License and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience in engineering consulting within energy or industrial sectors
  • Experience on large capital projects (Oil & Gas, Power, Refining, Chemicals, Industrial facilities)
  • Ability to proactively lead technical efforts and project team staff.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training certification.
  • Experience supporting or partially leading engineering scope on capital infrastructure projects.
  • Exposure to Oil & Gas, Power Generation, Chemical, or Refining industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership and drive work to completion.
  • Interest in developing processes and procedures to enhance work productivity and quality.
