As of Jun 30, 2026, the average yearly pay for mid level accountant in the United States is $68,326.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $53,500.00 and $78,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A mid-level accountant typically does not earn $10,000 a month without a degree, as accounting roles usually require at least an associate or bachelor's degree. However, some high-paying freelance or consulting accounting positions, especially with specialized skills or certifications like CPA, can reach or exceed this income level through independent work or business ownership. Most jobs with such earnings without a degree are in sales, entrepreneurship, or skilled trades rather than traditional accounting roles.

Can you make $100,000 as an accountant?

Mid-level accountants can earn $100,000 or more annually, especially with several years of experience, specialized skills, or working in high-cost-of-living areas. Salaries vary based on industry, location, certifications like CPA, and the size of the organization, with senior roles and managerial positions typically earning higher wages.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mid Level Accountant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mid Level Accountant, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and typically a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, SAP, or Oracle, and often a CPA or progress toward certification, is highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you excel in this role. These competencies are crucial for ensuring accurate financial records, compliance, and meaningful collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.

What are some common challenges faced by mid level accountants, and how can they effectively overcome them?

Mid level accountants often juggle multiple responsibilities, such as preparing financial statements, managing audits, and ensuring regulatory compliance. One common challenge is staying current with changes in accounting standards and tax regulations, which can be addressed through ongoing professional development and training. Additionally, balancing deadlines during peak periods like year-end close or audits requires strong organizational and time management skills. Collaborating closely with other departments and senior accountants can help ensure accuracy and efficiency in reporting. Building good communication skills is also key, as mid level accountants often act as a bridge between junior staff and management.

Can you make $500,000 a year as an accountant?

Mid-level accountants typically earn between $60,000 and $85,000 annually, with higher salaries possible in senior or specialized roles, especially in large firms or with advanced certifications like CPA. Earning $500,000 a year is uncommon for this position and usually requires executive-level roles such as CFO or partner in a firm, along with extensive experience and a strong professional network.

What is the lowest level of accountant?

The lowest level of accountant is typically an entry-level or junior accountant position, which requires basic accounting skills and often an associate degree or bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. These roles involve routine tasks such as data entry, bookkeeping, and assisting senior accountants. Advancement usually requires gaining experience, additional certifications like CPA, and developing more complex accounting skills.

What is a Mid Level Accountant?

A Mid Level Accountant is a finance professional with several years of experience, typically between 3 to 5 years, who handles more complex accounting tasks than entry-level accountants. Their responsibilities include preparing financial statements, managing accounts, reconciling ledgers, assisting with audits, and ensuring compliance with regulations. They often work under the supervision of a senior accountant or accounting manager and may also help train junior staff. Mid Level Accountants play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting business decision-making.
