What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mental Health Professional (MHP), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mental Health Professional, you need a solid background in psychology or social work, often supported by a relevant degree and licensure such as LCSW, LPC, or LMFT. Familiarity with electronic health records, diagnostic tools like DSM-5, and therapeutic modalities such as CBT are commonly required. Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and emotional resilience help professionals build trust and effectively support clients through challenging situations. These skills and qualifications are vital for delivering effective treatment, ensuring client safety, and maintaining professional standards in mental health care.

What are some common challenges Mental Health Professionals (MHPs) face when working with diverse client populations?

Mental Health Professionals often work with clients from a variety of cultural, socioeconomic, and linguistic backgrounds. One common challenge is ensuring culturally competent care, which requires MHPs to continually educate themselves on different cultural norms and values. Additionally, language barriers, stigma around mental health, and varying belief systems can impact treatment engagement and outcomes. Successful MHPs regularly seek supervision, training, and collaboration with colleagues to enhance their ability to provide inclusive and effective support.

What are MHPs?

MHPs, or Mental Health Professionals, are trained individuals who provide support, therapy, and treatment for people experiencing mental health issues. They can include psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, social workers, and therapists, each with specialized training to diagnose and treat mental health conditions. MHPs work in various settings such as hospitals, clinics, schools, and private practices. Their goal is to help individuals improve their mental well-being through counseling, therapy, medication management, or a combination of approaches.

About MHP

Big firm expertise with small firm customer service.ย With over 75 employees, MHP is the largest regional CPA firm in Wyoming. However, since our start in the early 1930s, MHP has been dedicated to personalized customer service to both our employees and clients. MHP is deeply rooted in the Cheyenne community, both figuratively and literally-not only have we been around for over 90 years, but our office is also located in the heart of downtown Cheyenne within walking distance of good food, coffee, and breweries.

Tradition meets modernization. While the wild west may come to mind when you think of Wyoming, and that is a part of our history we hold dear, don't think we've been left in the proverbial dust. Our city is home to topnotch restaurants, breweries, shopping, art galleries, and theater. Where you might see History and Today collide best may be Cheyenne Frontier Days, the largest and oldest rodeo in the world. Hundreds of thousands of people from all over come to Cheyenne to see the concerts, special events, and rodeo each year. If the outdoors are more your scene, Wyoming is not lacking there either. We have some of the best camping, skiing, fishing, hunting, climbing, and biking in the country.

You're more than a number. As part of our MHP team, you'll have the unique opportunity to make your mark on the company and advance your career in the area you desire. Managers and Partners have an "open door policy", which is practically unheard of in larger firms. We encourage employees to get involved in our community as well as with each other-we host several team building and employee events every year, including holiday parties, BBQs, cornhole tournaments, Friday Nights on the Plaza (a Cheyenne summer concert series), and more!

Be a part of something bigger. At MHP, we strive to not only be experts in our field but also provide superior client service to our wide variety of clientele. We are a team-always willing to give a helping hand to our coworkers when we're able and will bend over backwards for our clients. We pride ourselves on servant leadership-we are leaders in our office and our community.

Who You Are

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • You have a minimum of three (3) years' experience and a sound knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.ย Preference for prior experience within professional service firms.
  • You are friendly, professional, and approachable.
  • You like numbers...but you also like people.
  • You are highly organized and detail oriented.
  • You are willing to embrace moments of pressure and tight deadlines.
  • You have excellent communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • You enjoy working in a dress-for your-day work environment and the opportunity to embrace self-managed paid time off.
  • You have a demonstrated track record of process improvement.
  • Professionalism - clock-punchers need not apply; you enjoy working as a valued member of a larger team.
  • You have experience in different accounting software.ย Preference for prior experience in Sage 100 and QuickBooks (Desktop and Online).

The Role

The MHP Accounting Services (AS) Supervisor is an excellent opportunity for candidates looking to bring their experience and expertise to a dynamic and growing workplace. The AS Supervisor works with the AS Manager in leading the AS department which involves training and developing the team members. The AS Supervisor will also service their own clients.ย  ย

  • Onboard and train new team members.
  • Provide feedback, support, training and development opportunities to team members.

Our compensation package includes a competitive base salary (commensurate with experience), retirement plan, health/dental/vision insurance, flexible spending account, self-managed PTO, experienced-based recognition program, continuing education, and employee assistance program.
