Job description

C.H. Thompson is currently seeking a Racker / Sandblaster to join our team. As a Racker / Sandblaster you will play a crucial role in maintaining quality, safety, and productivity through a hands-on approach. Specifically, the role focuses on cleaning, smoothing, and preparing surfaces and reading a work order to rack and unrack parts in preparation for subsequent processes such as anodize, paint or powder coat. Additionally, this role offers a fantastic opportunity to work directly with our Leadership Team, with a clear path for career advancement and professional growth.

Position Overview

  • Sandblasting:
    • Remove dirt, paint, grease, rust, and other materials from surfaces using sandblasting equipment.
  • Autobody:
    • Perform autobody work, such as filling, sanding, and priming surfaces.
  • Racking and Unracking Parts:
    • Reading work orders to determine how to place or hang metal parts on racks or hooks to prepare them for various finishing processes, such as plating, anodizing, powder coat or wet paint.
    • Racking items strategically to maximize coating coverage and minimize waste.
    • Distributing items evenly on the rack to maintain stability during transport and coating.
    • Unracking parts after processing.
  • Efficiency and Productivity:
    • Prioritizing items based on production schedules and deadlines.
  • Quality Control:
    • Inspect parts before and after the finishing process to ensure they meet quality standards and reporting any defects or non-conformances to supervisors.
  • Job Monitoring:
    • Utilize computer system to track job progress and scan in and out of jobs.
  • Collaboration:
    • Team Communication: Coordinate with painters, line operators, or other production team members to ensure smooth workflow during subsequent processes.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear appropriate PPE (gloves, safety glasses) as required for each task to protect against hazards.
    • Work Area Safety: Maintain a safe work environment, especially when handling chemicals or using cutting tools.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • High School Diploma or Equivalent is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Relevant experience in sandblasting is preferred.
    • Knowledge of surface preparation techniques and autobody work.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail and accuracy.
    • Communication: Clear communication is essential for reporting findings and collaborating with production teams.
    • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify issues and recommend solutions.
    • Technical Skills: Basic math and computer skills, ability to use specialized testing tools and machinery.
    • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, as well as lift up to 50lbs, bend, push, pull, reach and twist for 8-10 hours a day.
    • Quality Standards: Ensure all products and parts meet stringent quality standards.

Shift Hours:

  • Monday โ€“ Thursday 6:30am-3:30pm
  • Friday 6:30am-12:30pm

Total Compensation Package:

  • Wage
    • $17.50 - $19.50 per hour.
    • Compensation depends on the selected candidate's experience.
