Data Analyst, User & Content Insights
Role Summary: The Data Analyst, User & Content Insights focuses on uncovering relationships between user behavior, content metadata, and engagement needs across Internet Brands' platforms. This role analyzes patterns in how users discover, consume, and engage with content to inform personalization strategies, content development, and ontology design.
You will partner closely with ontology, behavioral analytics, product, and ML teams to translate empirical insights into actionable recommendations. This role emphasizes exploratory analysis, pattern discovery, and clear storytelling to support smarter content-driven personalization.
This role will be based in our El Segundo, CA office.
Key Responsibilities
Content & Topic Analysis
  • Map content clusters, topic distributions, and thematic relationships using metadata, taxonomy, and behavioral signals.
  • Analyze content performance signals such as engagement, dwell time, conversion, and retention by topic, format, and audience.
  • Track emerging topic trends and shifts in user interest over time.

User Behavior & Content Alignment
  • Analyze how user behavior aligns with content consumption patterns, including sequencing, depth, and frequency.
  • Identify behavioral pathways and content journeys that correlate with high engagement or learning outcomes.
  • Segment users based on content affinity, intent, and engagement patterns.

Ontology & Knowledge Support
  • Support ontology and taxonomy development with empirical evidence derived from content usage and performance.
  • Validate or challenge proposed content structures using real-world data.
  • Help identify meaningful content attributes and relationships that improve personalization relevance.

Opportunity & Gap Identification
  • Identify content gaps, under-served topics, and opportunity areas that can drive personalization impact.
  • Surface mismatches between user needs and available content.
  • Partner with product and content teams to inform roadmap and prioritization decisions.

Reporting & Insight Communication
  • Build dashboards, analyses, and narratives that make complex content-user relationships accessible to stakeholders.
  • Clearly communicate insights and recommendations to product, editorial, and personalization teams.
  • Support experimentation and measurement by defining content-related success metrics.

Experience & Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Information Science, Marketing Analytics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a data analyst or insights role.
  • Strong skills in:
    • SQL for data extraction and analysis
    • Exploratory data analysis and visualization upon large data sets and from various platforms
  • Experience working with content metadata, taxonomies, or categorical data.
  • Experience with web log data and web analytic tools, including understanding of traffic sourcing and behavior KPIs
  • Ability to translate analysis into clear, actionable insights.
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, or similar).

Preferred:
  • Experience analyzing content platforms, media products, or knowledge-based systems.
  • Familiarity with taxonomy or ontology concepts.
  • Experience with behavioral or engagement analytics.
  • Exposure to personalization or recommendation systems.
  • Solid understanding of Data Science principles
