Job Summary:
Provides accurate and professional language translation and interpreting services. Translator provides written translation of a wide variety of documents. Interpreter facilitates culturally and linguistically competent communication between individuals with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and medical providers in a manner that promotes patient safety and confidentiality.
EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:
A minimum of 1 year of experience providing medical interpreting in English and the target language is required.
Highly prefer Spanish Translator/Interpreter.
A minimum of 1 year medical translation experience in English and the target language is required. In lieu of experience, MA in Translation and Interpreting, or MA in Translation with National Interpreter Certification (CCHI, NBCMI) is required.
A minimum of 3 years of directly related experience is preferred.
Experience at a Level I Trauma Center is preferred.
EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:
Bachelor Degree in translation, foreign language or related field is required.
Professional Medical Interpreter Program is preferred. Master's degree in Translation is preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION:
Must be bilingual in English and Spanish, solid knowledge of medical terminology and competence in communicating the meaning of terms.
Ability to produce written translation of material, such as: various forms, documents, patient letters and other material.
Strong ability to interpret diagnostic processes, treatments, procedures, preventive care, and be culturally competent
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, their families and health care providers.
Ability to perform under stressful situations and medical emergencies.
Travel between locations during shift is required.
Formal interpreter training is preferred. 40 hour medical interpretation training program, preferred.
LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:
CCHI or NBCMI Certification is preferred.
