Job description

Job Title: Packaging Technician Location: East Durham, NY 12423 Type: Contract Compensation: $24.50/hr Work Model: Onsite Hours: 7:00am to 7:00pm. 2/2/3 rotating schedule

Responsibilities

  • Support the packaging area to analyze root causes for process improvement and cost reductions
  • Operate fully automated toothpaste packaging lines at speeds up to 450 tubes per minute
  • Handle packaging materials including cases, cartons, bundles, rolls, slip sheets, caps, corners, pallets, and finished goods
  • Maintain cleanliness of the area and equipment
  • Perform autonomous maintenance activities to optimize line performance
  • Assist maintenance technicians with preventive maintenance activities
  • Conduct inventories of packaging materials and products
  • Perform activities focusing on safety and compliance
  • Enter transactions in SAP to manage materials from receipt to final product
  • Conduct quality checks and document results
  • Record batch activity on computerized systems
  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Ensure compliance with procedures, work instructions, batch documentation, and good manufacturing practices
  • Search for cost savings and waste reduction opportunities
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, every other weekend off
  • Basic computer skills (Data entry, email, file access, Microsoft Word and Excel)
  • Manufacturing or production experience (preferred)
  • Experience as a packaging operator (preferred)
  • Familiarity with equipment/machinery maintenance and changeovers (preferred)
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work with teams and management (preferred)
  • Certification in packaging technologies (TFS-80, TFS-30, FPS-4) (preferred)
  • Ability to lift up to 55 pounds, stand, bend, and walk for extended periods
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed
  • Ability to operate industrial power lifts (pallet jacks and forklifts) (preferred)
  • Basic math skills including percentages, fractions, and decimals
  • Knowledge of measurement units (e.g., kilograms vs pounds)
