Positions Location: Carson City, MI
Job Description
General Purpose of Job: Responsible for the analysis of laboratory specimens and subsequent result reporting according to laboratory protocol and procedures.
Essential Duties:
- Performs routine and specialized patient laboratory testing.
- Obtains laboratory specimens from patients as needed.
- Posts laboratory results to their proper destination.
- Process microbiology cultures and other specimens as needed.
- Follows established procedures for quality control performance and documentation. Reports discrepancies to the Laboratory manager or designee.
- Performs daily, weekly, monthly or as needed maintenance on instruments and equipment as appropriate. Performs calibration of equipment as required.
- Troubleshoots problems with instruments, equipment, reagents and patient specimens. Documents situation appropriately in department log and notifies the Laboratory Manager or designee.
- Maintains work area, cleans bench, restocks supplies and notifies manager of low stock.
- Participates in new lot correlation studies, proficiency testing, computer validation, procedure updates and accreditation readiness as needed.
- Participates in orientation and training of students and new laboratory employees.
- Performs DOT and non-DOT urine collections and BAT tests when requested following the established guidelines.
- Seeks additional assignments/projects during periods of lower than normal work volume.
Job Requirements
General Requirements:
- MT (ASCP), MLT (ASCP), CLS (ASCP) or equivalent certification within 12 months of hire.
- BLS certified within 60 days of hire
Education:
- Completion of an accredited Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Laboratory Science program and registered or registry eligible
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
- Good communication skills, accurate writing and spelling, ability to reason and problem solve.
- Computer skills.
- Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job
