Job description

Medicaid Paralegal

Syracuse, New York | $50,000–65,000 + Bonus + Benefits

The Marrone Law Firm, P.C. is a boutique elder law and estate planning firm in Syracuse, New York. We focus on complex Medicaid planning, trust drafting, guardianships, and Surrogate’s Court practice.

We are seeking a Medicaid Paralegal to join our Medicaid Practice Area to work with our other paralegals and attorneys to assist clients in navigating the complex system of Medicaid eligibility for nursing home residents and seniors living in the community.

This is client-facing role with direct file management responsibility situated in a collaborative atmosphere of professionals who take their work seriously, but don't take themselves too seriously.

What You’ll Actually Do

  • Carry a caseload of Medicaid clients for which you are the main point of contact and you are directly responsible for the work related to their Medicaid application.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and other paralegals to define the strategy that will create the best possible outcome for the client
  • Communicate with clients, financial institutions, and insurance companies in order to gather and organize the necessary documentation to be able to file a completed Medicaid Application on the behalf of the client.
  • Work in a diligent, timely, and strategic manner to ensure completion of the Medicaid application by the appropriate due date
  • Keep internal project tracking software up to date with current statuses of your cases, including recording your time for all billable and non-billable work

Who This Role Is For

This position is ideal for someone who:

  • You are an experienced Medicaid paralegal who understands and appreciates the intricacies of the Medicaid process.
  • You love learning. Internal and external processes are constantly evolving and improving, and you are always looking for the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute.
  • You are a fantastic multitasker. You will often be surrounded by competing priorities, and our ideal candidate can determine the difference between urgent and high priority, and act accordingly.
  • You are a self-starter. You’ll have many team members to collaborate with, but you’ll need to be able to take ownership of each of your projects from start to completion.
  • You are an excellent communicator. You have superior written and verbal communication skills.

We value professionalism, reliability, and good judgment more than flashy resumes.

What We Offer

  • Salary range: $50,000–65,000 (based on experience)
  • Annual performance-based bonus
  • Retirement matching
  • Health and dental insurance
  • Flexible 4/1 hybrid schedule
