Name: Mechanic Technician's Helper /School Bus Technician
Location: Transportation/Service Center
Overview: The school bus mechanic technician's helper will report to the Shop Foreman and Fleet Manager and will be responsible for performing assigned maintenance and repairs to the Corporation's vehicle fleet.
Requirements
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalency
Technicians must be experienced in the automotive and/or heavy duty truck repair field or be capable of training to repair and maintain heavy duty equipment.
Must be able to use a computer and learn new software systems.
Must be able to lift heavy objects (over 50 pounds) and perform heavy manual labor.
Must be able to work in extreme climate conditions.
Must be able to stand, walk, crouch, bend, and kneel without restriction.
Must be 21 years of age or older.
Must have use of hands, arms, feet, legs, eyes, and ears.
Be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Must have the ability to obtain a CDL class B license with appropriate endorsements.
Terms of Employment:
FLSA non-exempt
12 month 260 day position
Wages and benefits as specified in the current schedule for classified employees as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the School Board of Trustees.
Duties:
As a school bus mechanic technician's helper for Tippecanoe School Corporation you will be held to a high standard of job performance due to the fact that the vehicles you repair transport the Corporations children to and from school and extracurricular activities. You will be required to achieve and maintain ASE Master Certification, perform all repairs to maintain passenger & vehicle safety, perform all repairs per OEM recommendations and the TMC Recommended repair practices manual, under the direction of the Shop Foreman.
Must be able to maintain TSC owned school buses and corporation owned vehicles in a manner that meets the Indiana State School Bus Inspection Guidelines.
Maintain, diagnose and repair school bus stop arm and warning light systems.
Maintain, diagnose and repair air brake systems on Class VI and VII buses and trucks.
Maintain, diagnose and repair mechanical and electronic transmission components.
Maintain, diagnose and repair electronically controlled diesel engines.
Perform front and rear alignment.
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on all school buses and corporation owned vehicles which includes oil changes and lubrication.
Each technician will be required to be scheduled to be on call for weekend service calls. This call will be on a rotating basis.
Technicians will be responsible for snow removal on the Service Center lot and other sites Assigned by the Transportation Director.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Director, Fleet Mgr. or Foreman.
