FLEET MECHANIC

Location: Roanoke, IN

Pay: $36.50 per hour, increasing to $41.00 per hour once in the union

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Fleet Mechanic to support mobile equipment and fleet maintenance operations at a large industrial automotive manufacturing facility in Roanoke, Indiana.

This position will primarily be responsible for maintaining a fleet of more than 150 pieces of industrial mobile equipment, including forklifts, aerial booms, carts, generators, floor scrubbers, and other facility support equipment.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills and experience maintaining industrial, fleet, construction, or material-handling equipment in a manufacturing environment.

COMPENSATION

Starting wage: $36.50 per hour
Wage increases to $41.00 per hour once the employee enters the union
Union position with additional benefits and opportunities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on a fleet of 150+ pieces of industrial mobile equipment.
Maintain and repair forklifts, aerial booms, carts, generators, floor scrubbers, and other mobile facility equipment.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems.
Troubleshoot and repair gasoline, diesel, electric, and battery-powered equipment.
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.
Repair and replace brakes, steering components, tires, batteries, motors, belts, hoses, hydraulic components, and other equipment parts.
Troubleshoot electrical systems, wiring, controllers, switches, sensors, and charging systems.
Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems and components.
Perform scheduled maintenance according to manufacturer specifications and facility requirements.
Respond to equipment breakdowns and service calls throughout the facility.
Complete maintenance work orders and document repairs using a CMMS/work order system.
Maintain accurate service and maintenance records for fleet equipment.
Inspect equipment for safety and operational issues and remove unsafe equipment from service when necessary.
Coordinate with operations and facility personnel to prioritize equipment repairs and minimize downtime.
Assist with parts identification, inventory, and ordering as needed.
Follow all OSHA, company, and facility safety procedures.
Perform lockout/tagout procedures when required.
Maintain a clean and organized maintenance work area.
Communicate equipment conditions, repair status, and recurring issues to supervisors and management.

QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience as a Fleet Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Industrial Maintenance Technician, Forklift Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, or similar role.
Experience maintaining forklifts, aerial lifts, booms, carts, generators, scrubbers, or other industrial mobile equipment strongly preferred.
Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
Experience with electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Ability to troubleshoot both electric and internal-combustion-powered equipment.
Experience with batteries, charging systems, motors, controllers, and electrical components preferred.
Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, meters, diagnostic equipment, and other maintenance tools.
Experience in an industrial or automotive manufacturing environment preferred.
Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple equipment repair needs.
Ability to safely operate and work around industrial mobile equipment.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred; technical or mechanical training is a plus.
