Job Summary:
Millers Markets is seeking an experienced, community-minded Meat Department Manager to lead our meat and seafood operations in Garrett, Indiana. In this role, you will manage daily department operations, drive sales, maintain fresh inventory, and lead a dedicated team. The ideal candidate pairs professional meat-cutting expertise with strong management skills to provide our local customers with top-quality products and excellent service.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Department Leadership: Recruit, train, schedule, and mentor meat department staff to ensure high standards of performance and productivity.
  • Operations & Inventory Management: Order product, manage stock levels, minimize shrink, and monitor department gross margins to achieve financial goals.
  • Merchandising & Stocking: Design and maintain attractive counter and self-service displays. Oversee and execute the regular stocking and rotation of the lunchmeat and frozen cases.
  • Quality & Food Safety: Enforce local health department regulations, food safety standards, and strict sanitation guidelines for all equipment and preparation areas.
  • Production & Cutting: Assist on the sales floor by cutting, trimming, and wrapping meat to meet daily customer demand and specialty requests.
  • Customer Service: Build strong relationships with the Garrett community by providing helpful, friendly service and sharing knowledge on cuts and cooking methods.

Qualifications & Skills:
  • Experience: 3-5 years of retail grocery meat-cutting experience, with a proven track record in a supervisory or management role.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with commercial meat saws, grinders, slicers, and knives.
  • Business Acumen: Familiarity with inventory control, ordering systems, margins, and managing a department budget.
  • Schedule & Physical Requirements: Must be available to work until 4:00 PM throughout the week and work Saturdays. Ability to stand for long shifts, work in cold environments, and lift up to 50 lbs. Food safety certification is a plus.
