Job description

Board Member Opportunity (NYC-Based)

Organization: Mayaโ€™s Hope Foundation, Inc. or Maya's Hope

Mayaโ€™s Hope is seeking an NYC-based prospective Board Member to join our organization.

Mayaโ€™s Hope is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children living in extreme poverty by providing life-saving medical care, therapy, education, and basic necessities such as food, diapers, and formula. Our work focuses primarily on children and families in the Philippines and Ukraine, where access to care is often limited or nonexistent.

Board service at Mayaโ€™s Hope is a meaningful, hands-on commitment, and we take great care in building our board thoughtfully.

Important:

Our board selection process requires a minimum of nine (9) months before anyone can be considered for appointment. This period is essential for mutual learning, engagement, and alignment prior to any formal invitation to join the Board.

What the Board Member Role Involves

Prospective board members typically participate in:

  • Introductory and ongoing conversations with leadership
  • Engagement as a volunteer, advisor, or committee participant
  • Attendance at select meetings and events
  • Learning our programs, financial structure, and governance model

Only after completing the minimum 9-month engagement period would a candidate be considered for formal board nomination.

Ideal Candidate

We are seeking NYC-based individuals who:

  • Are deeply aligned with humanitarian and child-focused work
  • Value transparency, accountability, and ethical stewardship
  • Bring professional expertise (e.g., finance, legal, fundraising, communications, operations, governance)
  • Are prepared for an active, working board role
  • Understand the seriousness and responsibility of nonprofit board service

Why Mayaโ€™s Hope

Our board is directly connected to the mission and the children we serve. This is not an honorary role. It is a commitment to thoughtful leadership, long-term impact, and responsible stewardship of donor trust and organizational resources.

To express interest:

Please submit a brief introduction outlining your background, NYC-based availability, and why Mayaโ€™s Hopeโ€™s mission resonates with you.
