What are Maxi jobs?

Maxi jobs are part-time employment positions in Germany that allow individuals to earn between 538.01 and 2,000 euros per month (as of 2024) with reduced social security contributions compared to full-time jobs. These jobs are designed to offer more flexibility than traditional employment, making them popular among students, retirees, and those seeking supplemental income. While maxi jobbers pay some social security contributions, they typically have more take-home pay than regular employees, but fewer benefits than full-time workers. Unlike mini jobs, maxi jobs require the employee to pay a portion of health, pension, and unemployment insurance, though at reduced rates. Employers are also responsible for certain contributions.
