A 420+ bed womenโs and childrenโs hospital in Houston is seeking a Director of Surgical Services to lead a high-volume perioperative program within a nationally recognized maternal and pediatric care environment. The facility includes a Level IV NICU, the highest level of neonatal care, and delivers more than 800 babies each month, making it one of the busiest obstetric hospitals in Texas.
Position Overview
This leadership role carries full responsibility for the clinical, operational, and financial performance of the surgical services department. The Director oversees daily operations, ensures regulatory compliance, and drives consistent delivery of safe, high-quality surgical care across the service line.
A strong focus of this position is improving efficiency and patient outcomes through evidence-based practice, thoughtful resource management, and strong coordination across clinical teams. This role also partners closely with physicians and administrative leadership to support service line development and growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
โข Oversee overall operations of the surgical services department, including staffing, budgeting, and performance management
โข Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and hospital policies
โข Support development and implementation of evidence-based clinical practices
โข Monitor and improve patient flow, throughput, and volume forecasting
โข Manage staffing models, scheduling, and productivity across surgical services
โข Oversee supply and equipment utilization to support cost-effective operations
โข Collaborate with physicians and hospital leadership to evaluate and grow surgical service lines
โข Lead recruitment, retention, and development of surgical services staff and leaders
โข Promote interdisciplinary collaboration to support safe, patient-centered care
โข Identify opportunities to improve quality outcomes, efficiency, and operational performance
Qualifications
โข Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
โข Masterโs degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred
โข Minimum of 3 years of surgical services experience required
โข At least 1 year of recent leadership experience in surgical services as a Director or strong Manager-level experience required
โข Pediatric experience strongly preferred (including NICU, L&D, Mother-Baby, or pediatric surgical services exposure)
โข Demonstrated ability to lead in high-volume, complex surgical environments required
