What is material planning?

Material planning is the process of determining the materials and components required for manufacturing or production, and ensuring they are available at the right time and in the right quantities. This role involves forecasting demand, managing inventory levels, and coordinating with suppliers to prevent shortages or overstock situations. Effective material planning helps organizations optimize production schedules, reduce costs, and improve supply chain efficiency.
