Job description

Position title: Material Handling Laborer

Location: Newport, Rhode Island

Clearance required: Secret

Scope: Operates Material Handling Equipment (MHE) for Property Accountability Services (PAS) operations at NUWCDIVNPT warehouse facilities. Performs physical material handling including receiving, warehousing, delivery, and packaging operations using forklifts and pallet jacks for SUBSAFE/LEVEL I/DSS-SOC material.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Operate Government-provided MHE including pallet jacks and forklifts (up to 36,000 lb. capacity).
  • Perform MHE inspection prior to and immediately after operation.
  • Report operational or safety issues to Government Lead; do not operate MHE until issues are resolved.
  • Maintain all required OSHA certifications and forklift training.
  • Offload material from delivery vehicles using MHE.
  • Transport material from receiving to storage locations.
  • Support material receipt, validation, and labeling operations.
  • Store material per Government Location Schema using MHE.
  • Perform re-warehousing, stock rotation, and warehouse maintenance.
  • Assemble, install, and maintain storage aids (racks, bins, pallets).
  • Maintain warehouse orderly, clean, and safe; operate Government-provided Zamboni for floor cleaning.
  • Perform COSIS processes; protect material from damage, deterioration, or pilferage.
  • Perform packing, packaging, physical handling, loading, and movement of material from staging area to delivery truck.
  • Deliver material per priority timelines:
    • Priority 01-03: within 24 hours of receipt
    • Priority 04-15/no priority/WMF: within 72 hours of receipt
    • WMF material: by Required Delivery Date (RDD)
  • Obtain customer signatures on WMFs, update delivery manifest.
  • Capable of lifting up to 70 pounds.
  • Perform preservation, packaging, packing, and marking on items of various sizes and weights.
  • Visually inspect material and containers for transport suitability.
  • Review CIIC and classification markings; utilize special handling precautions when applicable.
  • Pack classified, pilferable, and sensitive material within secure storage areas.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Possesses current and valid OSHA certification for forklift operator up to 15K lbs. for forklift types, Class I-V and VII.
  • One year of demonstrated experience operating Material Handling Equipment (MHE) in a warehouse environment.

Desired Qualifications/Experience:

  • SUBSAFE/LEVEL I/DSS-SOC material handling experience.
  • DoD warehouse operations.
  • MIL-STD-129R (Military Marking for Shipment and Storage).
  • MIL-STD-2073-1E (Military Packaging).
  • Hazardous and classified material handling.
