These jobs often involve physical work, shift work, or high demand skills.

What are material handlers?

Material handlers are workers responsible for moving, loading, unloading, and managing materials within warehouses, factories, or distribution centers. They ensure materials and products are stored properly, transported efficiently, and tracked accurately throughout the facility. Material handlers often use equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, or conveyors and play a crucial role in maintaining workflow and safety standards in logistics and manufacturing environments.

What Is the Job of a Material Handler?

The job of a material handler differs slightly across industries, which include manufacturing, warehouse supply, or retail. In production, your duties are to procure and deliver products or raw materials to the production floor to be assembled. You may use specialized equipment to move supplies, such as forklifts. In retail, such as working at a second-hand store, your responsibilities may include sorting through donations at distribution facilities or stock rooms and performing quality control to ensure materials meet company standards.

Understanding these differences can help job seekers find the right position in the logistics industry.

How much do material handlers earn?

Material handlers typically earn an average hourly wage of around $14 to $20, depending on experience, location, and industry. Many roles require the use of forklifts or other equipment, and some positions offer overtime pay or benefits. Salaries can vary based on certifications and the complexity of the work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Material Handler, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Material Handler, you need strong organizational skills, basic math abilities, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. These skills ensure accurate inventory control, safe handling of goods, and efficient warehouse operations.

What is the highest pay for a Material Handler?

The highest pay for a Material Handler can reach around $20 to $25 per hour or approximately $40,000 to $50,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Senior or specialized Material Handlers with certifications or in high-demand regions may earn higher wages.

What are the duties of a Material Handler?

A Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing materials within a warehouse or manufacturing environment. They often operate equipment such as forklifts, maintain inventory records, and ensure proper handling and safety procedures are followed. Attention to detail and physical stamina are important for this role.

What are some common challenges Material Handlers face in fast-paced warehouse environments?

Material Handlers often encounter challenges such as managing tight deadlines, handling heavy or bulky items safely, and adapting to rapidly changing inventory demands. About SEEK Careers/Staffing

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

SEEK was founded in 1971 by Carol Ann Schneider, CPC, SPHR, a Grafton, Wisconsin resident. The name SEEK was derived from a combination of initials in Carol’s family. It was a tradition that names derived in such a way would bring success to that person or business. So, from Carol’s home, SEEK assignment employees were sent to serve the temporary needs of Ozaukee County business people. The business grew and was eventually incorporated in 1975. The Grafton office expanded from Carol’s home to several other buildings in town before finally settling in their current location on Opportunity Drive in Grafton in 1997. Currently, there are 19 total branch offices with 16 located throughout Wisconsin and a recent acquisition has expanded SEEK’s portfolio to 3 branch offices in the Twin Cities.
