Job description

Position Summary

As a Software Engineer III, you will be part of an Agile Scrum team and directly contribute to the creation and maintenance of products that support our business operations. You will participate in Sprint activities, such as planning, grooming and daily standups to deliver on commitments, continuously improve process and drive positive change.


You will apply your skills in Software Development to help the team produce quality, on-time deliverables and apply root cause analysis to track down story bugs and production issues. Using an eye for quality and an attention to detail, you will help us build reliable and fault tolerant, extensible applications backed by unit testing and test automation. Additionally, you will work directly with Team Leads, Business Users, Product Owners, Functional Analysts and other Engineers to build new projects and support existing applications.


The ideal candidate is self-motivated and able to multi-task moderately complex issues on their own and when assistance is required, able to provide specific issues and options. This role requires a robust breadth of Software Development concepts allowing you to create scalable, extensible applications with minimal direction. Also necessary is

interfacing with existing applications built on REST, an understanding of security implications for designs and implementations and the ability to adapt to a fast paced, changing environment.


About The Team

As part of Retail Technology's Core Systems team, you'll work on the applications that keep key areas of the business running every day. This role combines production support, system improvement, system maintenance, and feature development, giving you the opportunity to solve real problems with immediate impact. You'll work closely with engineers and business partners to troubleshoot issues, deliver enhancements, and help shape our platform.
Our environment is complex and constantly evolving. You'll spend time working across web applications, APIs, databases, integrations, and other systems, often connecting the dots between multiple technologies to understand how the whole ecosystem works. We're looking for someone who enjoys untangling difficult problems, taking ownership, and learning new things along the way.


Primary Responsibilities

Mentor junior team members through peer reviews and provide guidance on story implementation.

Manage technical scope creep inside stories.

Emphasize working software over gold plated solutions.

Provide root cause analysis for defects and production issues.

Lead design efforts for new functionality, create team understanding that aligns strategic and architectural goals and create appropriate design documentation.

Strive to produce high quality, on time software by utilizing unit tests and partnering with QA to meet acceptance criteria.

Participate in the full SDLC from requirements gathering to testing and delivery.

Identify operational dependencies on other tech teams or support groups.

Break down stories into small, testable units focused on rapid delivery.


Primary Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent work experience

4+ years of Software Development experience

Experience with project tracking software, such as Jira and Agile Methodology.

Experience with source control systems and CI/CD pipelines preferred.


Desired Skills

Strong front-end skillset, with an interest in improving customer and team member experiences (CX/TMX) through intuitive and effective interfaces

Experience with React or similar modern front-end frameworks

Willingness to contribute across the stack, including backend services and integrations, to support end-to-end solutions

Comfortable working within complex or legacy systems, balancing immediate business needs with longer-term improvements

Ability to troubleshoot and resolve production issues, including analyzing logs and working across interconnected systems

Excellent time management and ability to prioritize work with little direction.

Excellent analytical skills. Ability to weigh pros and cons of design choices and make suggestions to Management, Product Owners, and Team Members.
