Job description

Manufacturing Assembler (2nd shift)

Hours: 2:00pm- 10:30pm or 4:00pm to 12:30am, depending on assigned department

Quantum Fuel Systems / www.qtww.com

Reports to: Manufacturing Manager or Supervisor

Location: Lake Forest, CA (onsite at company headquarters)

Employment type: Full-time

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $21.00 - 28.00/hour, depending on experience

For over 25 years, Quantum Fuel Systems has been building the equipment that powers clean energy - compressed natural gas (CNG), renewable natural gas (RNG), and hydrogen storage systems and transport trailers used across the country. Based in Lake Forest, CA, our team designs and builds the real, physical products that help move the industry toward a cleaner future, and every part that goes out our doors is built by our manufacturing assembling team.

JOB PURPOSE

The Manufacturing Assembler turns raw components into finished product: on schedule, to spec, and without cutting corners.

We're looking for someone who's steady with their hands, comfortable following detailed work instructions, and reliable enough that the team can count on them shift after shift. You'll be assigned to one area, while also cross training across multiple processes: mechanical assembly, filament winding support, rotomold operations, so versatility and attention to detail matter here as much as speed.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Build & Assemble

  • Understand and prepare detailed work procedures with accuracy.
  • Use assembly tools, fixtures, and equipment to complete mechanical assembly tasks.
  • Support filament winding operations, including resin squeezing and tool cleaning.
  • Support rotomold operations, including material preparation and boss recovery.
  • Install tank labels and foam domes.
  • Assemble and ship products on time, meeting or exceeding specifications.

Follow the Process

  • Maintain consistent quality standards, catching and flagging issues before they become problems.
  • Follow Quality Assurance Procedures (QAP) and Departmental Work Instructions (DWI).
  • Take on additional responsibilities as requested by management.

Show Up & Deliver

  • Work assigned shift hours reliably and show up on time.
  • Work well both independently and as part of a team.

WHAT TO EXPECT

This is an active, hands-on production role - expect regular standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching throughout your shift, along with occasional lifting of 25โ€“60 lbs and pushing/pulling up to 65โ€“70 lbs of pressure.

Based on production needs, this position may require mandatory overtime, including evenings or weekends, with overtime pay for all qualifying hours as required by law.

In exchange, you'll receive cross-training across assembly, filament winding, and rotomold operations. You'll join a team that takes pride in precision and has each other's backs on the floor, doing work that's seen and valued every day.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • English proficiency required to read and follow written work instructions and safety guidelines
  • Ability to work assigned shift hours reliably and consistently
  • Reliable transportation required to ensure consistent, on-time attendance
  • Commitment to safety, consistently using PPE and following all written and verbal safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Coachable and open to feedback, with a willingness to learn and improve
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch throughout a shift
  • Ability to lift 25โ€“60 pounds and push/pull up to 65โ€“70 pounds of pressure occasionally

Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 drawing standards
  • Automobile mechanic experience or forklift operation experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is primarily a manual labor position requiring the employee to spend approximately 8 hours per day in a shop environment. They will be walking and standing for extended periods reaching with hands and arms operating equipment, occasionally required to sit, crouch, and kneel. Vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus. Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds and push/pull up to 65-70 pounds of pressure occasionally.
