Job description

Job Title: Manufacturing Associate (3rd) ($21.00/hr.)

Job Description

This role focuses on safely and efficiently packaging large steel plates and sheets in an industrial manufacturing environment. You will work at the end of a packaging line, follow detailed customer specifications, and operate material handling equipment to prepare steel bundles for shipment. The position primarily supports a 3rd shift schedule, with initial training provided on a mid-shift schedule. We are looking for individuals to start as soon as possible. We offer weekly pay with overtime paying time and a half. Apply Today!

Responsibilities

  • Work at the end of the packaging line in an industrial steel manufacturing environment, remaining on your feet for the entire shift.
  • Package steel plates and sheets according to detailed customer specifications, including banding large plates of steel and preparing bundles to order requirements.
  • Learn and apply customer requirements for each order, such as determining the need for skidded wood runners, the correct number of bands, and whether waterproof paper or other protective materials are required.
  • Collaborate closely with another packager to complete daily packaging tasks and ensure consistent quality and accuracy.
  • Package approximately 50 to 100 bundles of steel per day, maintaining a steady pace while meeting safety and quality standards.
  • Handle steel plate and sheet bundles weighing approximately 2,000 to 5,000 pounds, using appropriate equipment and safe handling practices.
  • Monitor bundles as they roll to the end of the line, then lift, move, and position each bundle as needed once packaging is complete.
  • Use plastic banding for the majority of packaging tasks, ensuring secure and consistent banding on each bundle.
  • Read and follow written work instructions, and communicate regularly with the team lead to clarify requirements and resolve issues.
  • Operate a stacker machine to load coils, build skids, and organize materials for packaging and shipment.
  • Use hand tools, including nail guns and staplers, to construct or secure skids, runners, and other packaging components.
  • Operate an overhead crane and tow motor (forklift) to move heavy bundles and materials safely around the facility.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, following safety guidelines and reporting any hazards or equipment issues promptly.
  • Participate in hands-on training and coaching from the lead to continuously improve skills and support potential progression into machine operator roles.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working in a fast-paced industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Experience using hand tools such as nail guns, staplers, or similar equipment.
  • Comfort working on your feet for an entire shift in an industrial setting.
  • Basic ability to read and follow written work instructions.
  • Willingness and ability to operate material handling equipment such as overhead cranes and tow motors (forklifts), with appropriate training provided.
  • Strong attention to detail when following customer packaging specifications.
  • Reliable work ethic and ability to consistently meet production and quality expectations.
  • Steel-toe boots (required for safety).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a steel manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience packaging steel or similar heavy materials.
  • Overhead crane operation experience.
  • Forklift experience in a manufacturing or warehouse setting.
  • Familiarity with general labor, general production, and banding processes.
  • Comfort working with large, heavy materials and industrial equipment.
  • Interest in developing skills to progress into machine operator roles over time.

Why Work Here?

You will join a stable, family-oriented organization that emphasizes long-term employment and employee development. The facility has a strong record of stability, having never experienced a layoff, and offers solid benefits, including comprehensive health coverage and a competitive retirement plan with a matching contribution. Employees receive yearly raises and have access to hands-on training and coaching that support career growth and advancement. With a small manufacturing floor team, you are recognized as an individual rather than a number, while still benefiting from the resources of a larger organization with multiple locations. The culture values safety, reliability, and continuous improvement, providing a supportive environment where you can build a long-term career.

Work Environment

The role is based in a steel manufacturing facility that operates multiple shifts. This position primarily supports a 3rd shift schedule, typically 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with Friday off, and initial training provided on a mid-shift schedule (for example, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.). The workweek generally consists of four 10-hour shifts. You will work in a large industrial plant where steel plates and sheets are processed and packaged. The environment can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter, as the facility uses large garage doors that open to allow semi-trucks to drive inside for loading and unloading. You will spend most of your shift on your feet at the end of the packaging line, working with heavy steel bundles and operating equipment such as stacker machines, overhead cranes, and tow motors. The facility emphasizes safety and proper use of personal protective equipment, including steel-toe boots, and provides a hands-on, team-based environment with direct support from leads and coworkers.
