Babbitting Service, Inc (BSI) is a leader in the manufacture, design and repair of Hydrodynamic Fluid Film Bearings (Babbitt Bearings) and related parts since 1961. BSI services OEM's, aftermarket, and end users across the globe. Babbitting Service Inc. is looking to fill a Manufacturing Maintenance Technician position (Apprentice / level 1), at its South Elgin headquarters. To be considered, candidate should have manufacture/job shop, automotive or related experience or worked in a machine shop environment. Additionally, candidates who apply should have worked in a manufacturing, machine shop, factory or industrial plant environment.


Applicants must have experience with repair, maintenance, upkeep of machinery and skills working with electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and plumbing work or have the proven ability to learn such work. The individual selected will routinely work on various types of machinery, equipment and processes throughout the shop. All candidates must have the required tools for the position and able to perform work inside and/or outside the facility as needed.



Requirements:
  • Ability to change oils, coolants in all machinery
  • Perform a variety of work throughout the facility including repair of machinery, tools, shop floor equipment, and various building maintenance
  • Perform and coordinate preventive maintenance for various equipment as needed
  • Establish and maintain maintenance records
  • Perform preventative maintenance on some equipment with supervision
  • Perform basic to intermediate repairs on BSI equipment as scheduled by Maintenance Manager
  • Basic fabrication knowledge, skills and awareness
  • Use knowledge from Hazmat training to keep shop environment clean and safe
  • Serve as the โ€œgo-toโ€ for any other support tasks as needed to keep the operation running efficiently.


Qualifications:

  • Ability to drive a forklift with training (provided as needed)
  • Able to use basic tools for the repair and maintenance of all shop equipment
  • A basic understanding of blueprint and schematic diagram
  • Ability to safely operate basic machinery and equipment
  • Experience with general labor, maintenance 'inside and outside', or similar tasks is a plus.
  • Must be reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift and handle materials of various sizes and weights.
