Screw Machine Apprentice

2nd Shift; 2:45pm-11:15pm, Monday – Friday

RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Learn to operate one or more, typically two, six spindle screw machines.

JOB DUTIES:

  • This position requires employees to possess the necessary hand tools to perform their job correctly.
  • Learn the fundamental operation of a Screw Machine.
  • Learn procedures on inspecting and producing quality parts as per quality procedure LDM-3.
  • Loads bar stock into bar feed mechanism.
  • Learn how to identify and replace worn tools and sharpens cut off blades.
  • Learn to read layout to determine proper tooling needed.
  • Notify lead person or screw machine operator of variation in dimension.
  • Learn to adjust tools to bring parts into conformance with print.
  • Notifies Lead if tooling is getting low.
  • Learn to use different measuring devices used in the blanking process.
  • Learn to change collets, bushings, and feed fingers in stock feeding mechanism.
  • Performs routine maintenance checks (lube level, cutting oil level, etc.).
  • Empty and spin chips.
  • Weigh parts accurately.
  • Keep machines and area clean and orderly.
  • Fill out time slip completely and accurately.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and orally.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in basic math such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to lift and carry 15 ft. bars (60 pounds max.).
  • Ability to stand 75% of the shift.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with others.

Helpful Additional Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to use calipers and micrometer.
