Job description

We are a very busy automotive and diesel machine shop specializing in detailed vintage engine restoration, repair, and service for automotive and marine applications. We perform all forms of engine work on manual/analog equipment—including blockwork, head reconditioning, and internal and external crankshaft machining and balancing. We take immense pride in precision craftsmanship and tolerance-specific accuracy.

We are looking for a Machinist Helper / Trainee in Vero Beach, FL who shares our passion for engine building and mechanical precision.

In this role, you will work directly alongside experienced craftsmen to learn the art of analog/manual engine machining. Whether you have hands-on experience in engine rebuilding or just a strong background in automotive/diesel mechanics and a prideful attitude toward your work, we will train you on the job to operate traditional machine shop equipment to exact tolerances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analog Engine Machining: Learn to set up and operate manual machinery for complete blockwork (boring, honing, decking), cylinder head reconditioning (valve jobs, guides), and crankshaft grinding/balancing.
  • Vintage Engine Restoration: Assist with internal and external restoration, repair, and detailing on vintage automotive and marine engine components.
  • Precision Inspection: Learn to use precision tools (micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators) to verify strict, tolerance-specific dimensions.
  • Engine Teardown & Prep: Disassemble, clean, pressure test, and prepare blocks, heads, and cranks using shop cleaning equipment.
  • Shop Maintenance & Support: Keep machines maintained, work areas clean, and assist lead machinists with material handling and setup.

What We Are Looking For

  • Mechanical Background: Hands-on experience working on engines, automotive repair, diesel machinery, or general mechanical equipment.
  • Prideful Attitude: High pride in craftsmanship, extreme attention to detail, and respect for strict, tolerance-specific work.
  • Eagerness to Learn: Willingness to master traditional, analog machine shop tools and specialized vintage restoration techniques.
  • Physical Capabilities: Ability to lift heavy engine components (up to 50+ lbs) and stay active on your feet throughout the day.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an engine machine shop, automotive/diesel garage, or marine engine repair facility.
  • Experience with manual lathes, vertical mills, or traditional engine shop equipment.
  • Formal vocational training in Automotive, Diesel, or Precision Machining.

What We Offer

  • Earn While You Learn: Competitive pay with continuous advancement as your precision machining skills grow.
  • Master a Specialized Trade: Hands-on mentorship in rare, high-demand vintage engine machining and balancing.
  • Steady Work: Full-time hours in a highly active, established shop environment.
