Job description

Founded in 1986, St. Charles Community College (SCC) has a reputation as one of the best two-year colleges in the state of Missouri. SCC's service area includes a six-county region with a population exceeding 540,000. SCC's main campus, located in Cottleville, has won architectural awards for its innovative, contemporary design. The college's Dardenne Creek Campus features the Center for Healthy Living and the Field to Table Institute. SCC is seeking Part-time Dreamscape Learn Pod Operators to calibrate virtual reality experiences for students and guest, calibrate our virtual reality (VR) equipment and system, and quality-test virtual reality (VR) experiences.

This role primarily requires weekend availability from Thursday through Saturday, with occasional afternoon hours for training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out daily operations in the Dreamscape Learn (DSL) spaces and ensure impactful VR experiences for students and guests
  • Provide extended periods of focused attention on time-sensitive tasks
  • Guide participants through virtual reality experiences from beginning to end
  • Assist students and guests with putting on and taking off VR gear, giving directions in a clear and friendly manner
  • Provide excellent customer service to participants to ensure a positive experience
  • Assist in troubleshooting VR equipment
  • Assist Dreamscape Learn staff with special operations and research projects
  • Identify when issues need escalation, and report issues appropriately and in a timely manner
  • Perform regular testing and maintenance of all virtual reality pods and equipment
  • Clean and reset all VR pod equipment between uses
  • Assist participants with checking-in for scheduled VR events
  • Observe and operate events on the Dreamscape Learn schedule
  • Ensure appropriate opening and closing procedures in the Dreamscape Learn facility
  • Ensure health and safety guidelines are followed to school standards

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Section can be combined with Essential Duties Section)

  • Operational understanding of virtual reality hardware and software.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with a diverse student and community population; professional and approachable demeanor
  • Excellent customer service
  • Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new and innovative technologies
  • Strong sense of responsibility for equipment and participant safety
  • Ability to work collaboratively with academic and technical staff
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent (some post-secondary education in technology, education, or related field preferred)
  • User experience with VR technologies
  • Customer service experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Normal physical job functions performed in a standard office environment. Position may require occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a desk and working on a computer for long periods of time.
