Job Summary
  • Act as the primary in-store expert for lawn care, gardening supplies, grass seed, fertilizers, weed control, pesticides, and hand tools
  • Drive sales through personalized advice, product recommendations, and seasonal lawn/garden solutions for homeowners and landscapers.
  • Maintain attractive, fully stocked lawn & garden aisles and outdoor displays while ensuring safe chemical handling.
  • Full-time with evening, weekend, and holiday availability.
  • Praise worthy customer service is our goal in every customer interaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Product Knowledge & Sales
    • Master specifications, application rates, active ingredients, and safety data for fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, grass seed blends, soil amendments, and hand tools (shovels, pruners, trowels, hoses).
    • Recommend complete lawn programs (pre-emergent, post-emergent, feed/weed combos) based on grass type, region, soil test results, and weed/pest issues.
    • Upsell companion items (spreaders, sprayers, gloves, seed starters, mulch) and promote Ace Rewards or bulk discounts.
  • Customer Consultation & Education
    • Diagnose lawn problems (brown patches, crabgrass, grubs) via customer descriptions or photos and prescribe step-by-step solutions.
    • Teach proper mixing, calibration, and application timing; emphasize label compliance and pollinator safety.
    • Host mini-clinics or one-on-one sessions on seeding, aerating, or tool sharpening during peak seasons.
  • Merchandising & Inventory
    • Build eye-catching endcaps and pyramid displays for seasonal pushes (spring seeding, fall weed-and-feed).
    • Rotate dated chemicals, check for leaks/damage, and maintain FIFO stock rotation.
    • Conduct cycle counts, scan outs, and reorder popular SKUs; receive and stage pallet deliveries.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Wear PPE during demos (gloves, masks) and train staff on spill response.
    • Update MSDS binders and ensure all chemical signage meets local regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned by store management

Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Education
    • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience
    • 1+ years in lawn care, garden center retail, or landscaping preferred; state pesticide applicator license a plus (training assistance available).
  • Skills & Abilities
    • Strong working knowledge of turfgrass varieties, N-P-K ratios, and IPM principles.
    • Consultative sales approach with ability to simplify technical info for DIY customers.
    • Proficiency reading product labels, calculating coverage rates, and using spreader settings.
    • Comfort with POS, inventory apps, and basic soil pH testing.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products
  • Physical Requirements
    • Lift/carry up to 50 lbs repeatedly (fertilizer bags, seed pallets, tool sets).
    • Stand/walk full shift; bend, kneel, and reach low/high shelves.
    • Work outdoors in heat, cold, and pollen-heavy environments.
    • 18 years of age or older
