JOB SUMMARY

The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for researching, planning, and designing stations and machines using calculations, mechanical principals, and proven practices to create semi/fully automated assembly and test systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Researches and analyzes data such as customer request for quote, customer specifications, and PMD’s proposal to develop or determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Work within design hour constraints, schedule constraints, and overall machine budget constraints.
  • Work in a collaborative environment to make sure the designs developed are the most cost effective and will meet the customer’s requirements.
  • Develop/review concepts to confirm the design will meet required performance metrics including cycle time, yield, uptime, CPK and Gage R&R.
  • Design mechanisms, stations, machines using 3D modeling software (SolidWorks).
  • Works with vendors to obtain competitive quotes for major purchased components.
  • Create detailed fabrication drawings for all custom designed parts.
  • Create detailed assembly drawings identifying each individual component
  • Create a complete Bill of Material for each design/station.
  • Release completed designs to Project Management
  • Occasionally acts as Project Engineer on smaller projects
  • Supports fabrication, assembly, debug and machine qualification activities to ensure design conforms to customer requirements and specifications
  • Observe safety procedures.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Any other task assigned by management within scope of position, federal and state regulations.


Requirements:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 or more years’ experience in an automation related field, preferred.
  • Proficient in Solidworks, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • General knowledge of GD&T, EPDM and Jig and Fixture design.
  • Occasionally required to travel up to 5%.
