D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for a Construction Area Manager. The right candidate will supervise a group of General Superintendents, Superintendents and/or Project Managers assigned to communities in a designated area regarding construction field-related activities.  Implement all company policies and procedures throughout the entire construction process.  Update reports and ensure quality control in the houses built.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Plan and direct construction activities in the field either directly or through utilizing Project Managers, General Superintendents and Superintendents
  • Set build times on each plan and provide schedules to meet the build times
  • Maintain responsibility for the profitability of the homes being built in assigned communities and manage all cost by reviewing field purchase orders
  • Maintain total involvement with training, communication and development of Project Managers, General Superintendents, Superintendents and field personnel
  • Oversee field operations, production times and ensure quality control so the homes built meet company standards and are ready for homeowner orientation/occupancy
  • Ensure all homes in construction area are constructed to contract, specification and detail and all work invoiced is fully acceptable to company specifications and is 100% complete
  • Ensure assigned communities meet all safety standards in accordance with OSHA and state regulations
  • Visit job sites to check quality and policy enforcement
  • Interface, when necessary, with public agencies, municipal governing bodies, public utilities and industry associations in obtaining permits and approvals
  • Assist other Construction Area Managers
  • Handle escalated problems with subcontractors
  • Respond to unsatisfactory survey cards for construction and customer service to direct quality improvement efforts
  • Conducts all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company
  • Ability to travel overnight

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises 2 or more employees

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Seven years of related experience and/or training
  • Must have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license
  • High degree of construction knowledge and management skills
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret construction documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedules
  • General knowledge of municipal permitting, regulations and building codes 
  • Ability to converse with customers, all levels of management and personnel
  • Superb interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction
  • Ability to control cost overruns and manage a budget
  • Ability to utilize DRH Construction applications on a smart phone, tablet, or laptop
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred
  • Work effectively in a high pressure and high production environment
  • English/Spanish bilingual skills a plus
