Job description

Nectar Consulting is seeking a Junior Accounting & Compliance Assistant to support daily accounting, cash activity tracking, reconciliations, onboarding administration, and regulatory recordkeeping for a diverse client base, including regulated financial services businesses. This is an entry-level to early-career role designed for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and eager to build experience in accounting and compliance under the guidance of supervisors.


This role is best suited for a candidate who can manage recurring administrative and accounting support tasks with accuracy, follow established procedures, and grow into broader responsibilities over time.


Key Responsibilities

Accounting Support

  • Review daily bank activity for assigned clients and assist with recording cash receipts and disbursements.
  • Prepare routine cash entries and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Assist with daily general ledger updates.
  • Support account reconciliations and identify items requiring follow-up.
  • Assist with preparation of journal entries for:
    • accrued expenses,
    • invoices and bills,
    • prepaids,
    • deferred revenue,
    • and other recurring entries.
  • Maintain schedules and organized workpapers for accounting records.
  • Support month-end close processes under supervision.

Financial Reporting Support

  • Compile financial statements and supporting schedules for supervisor review.
  • Assist with gathering data for financial and regulatory reports.
  • Enter information into reporting templates and regulatory forms based on supervisor direction.
  • Support documentation readiness for audits, regulatory inquiries, and internal review.

Compliance & HR Administrative Support

  • Collect employment applications and onboarding documents for new hires.
  • Enter employee information into payroll and related systems.
  • Assist with maintaining internal records for:
    • training,
    • licensing,
    • registration,
    • compliance deadlines,
    • and HR-related tracking items.
  • Help update internal logs and tracking systems used for employee regulatory and compliance monitoring.
  • Support onboarding, employee record maintenance, and related administrative follow-up.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate electronic files and supporting documentation.
  • Escalate discrepancies, missing information, or unusual items to supervisors.
  • Manage daily recurring tasks in a timely and organized manner.
  • Ask questions proactively and participate in both structured and self-guided learning.
  • Contribute to a professional team environment that values accountability, reliability, and growth.


Qualifications


Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; or
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with 1+ year of relevant experience.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Comfort working with spreadsheets and general office software.
  • Familiarity with common accounting systems or ability to learn them quickly.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.


Preferred

  • Prior internship, office, bookkeeping, payroll, or accounting support experience.
  • Exposure to regulated businesses or compliance-related administrative work.
  • Familiarity with payroll systems, onboarding systems, or accounting platforms.
  • Interest in accounting and compliance as a long-term career path.
