Job description

Our data centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure efficiently delivers our innovative services. Meta's Energy Team is seeking a commercially-experienced and self-motivated energy professional to help us grow and manage our data center portfolio, ensuring a reliable, cost effective, risk-aware, and sustainable energy supply that meets business capacity planning needs. This role will focus on both regulated and organized electricity markets, as well as the natural gas transactions that increasingly underpin our ability to bring new capacity online at speed. In addition, this person will help manage electricity and gas regulation, policy, and utility and pipeline relationships for our growing fleet of data centers. The Energy Manager will support the continued development and execution of Meta's global energy strategy centered on meeting data center capacity needs of the business - addressing cost, risk, timelines, and energy targets within complex, large scale energy supply transactions. A growing share of that strategy depends on securing firm fuel supply and transportation for gas-fired generation, whether utility-owned, developer-owned, or on-site, and this role will help structure and execute those transactions. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of commercial success with utility negotiations and other energy suppliers/project developers (such as behind-the-meter/on-site generation or bridging-power contract structures), and experience working in both regulated markets like WECC or SERC, and RTO markets like ERCOT or SPP. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of a broader spectrum of energy supply issues including commercial, regulatory, market, technical and financial expertise, including familiarity with natural gas supply, transportation, and storage markets and how gas fundamentals drive power prices and generation economics.
Responsibilities
Actively manage commercial relationships for data centers located in a variety of energy markets in the United States, including relationships with utilities, generators, gas pipelines and marketers
• Take an active role in regulatory processes and influence rate-making and energy supply solutions offered by utilities, other suppliers, and market operators, including gas transportation tariffs and rate cases where relevant to our supply
• Develop and grow relationships with key utility partners, market participants, regulators, policymakers, and other stakeholders
• Negotiate and deliver new commercial agreements that enable capacity and create fungible options to allow us to deliver capacities in new and creative ways, spanning electricity, generation, and fuel supply arrangements
• Source, negotiate, and execute natural gas supply, transportation, and storage agreements where needed to support data center power supply strategies
• Support development of new supply solutions for bridge power, on-site generation, and behind-the-meter projects, including the fuel and transportation arrangements required to make them viable
• Evaluate gas market fundamentals and generation economics, including basis, pipeline capacity, and heat rates, and translate them into siting, contracting, and cost of energy recommendations
• Partner with legal resources to develop and refine commercial arrangements for existing facilities while managing the structures required to serve our facilities with reliable, cost-effective, sustainable energy
• Partner with the Site Selection Team to help identify new locations in the United States that provide the necessary energy requirements for new data centers, including electric and gas infrastructure availability
• Interface with internal organizations, including data center on-site staff, sustainability, policy, communications, design, construction, legal, and finance
• Support continued development and execution of Meta's energy supply strategy for data centers
• Stay informed of the technical, market, and regulatory developments across power and natural gas markets, and communicate key trends, risks, and potential impacts to management
• Lead and support various energy projects as needed
• Ability to travel domestically (likely 25%)
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in a directly related field, or equivalent practical experience
• 7+ years of experience navigating commercial energy issues associated with customer loads and new customer locations, across electricity and/or natural gas
• Experience representing business interests to the leadership teams of potential suppliers, utilities, pipelines, governments, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders
• Working knowledge of transmission, distribution, and utility interconnection processes, and of natural gas transportation, storage, and pipeline interconnection
• Experience negotiating energy supply or fuel agreements, such as PPAs, ESAs, tariff arrangements, or natural gas supply and transportation contracts
• Experience managing multiple projects and collaborating with internal staff, utility and pipeline providers, consultants, and external stakeholders
• Experience communicating commercial, regulatory, market, and contractual details to all organizational levels
• Proficiency in standard document and analytics platforms (Excel, Powerpoint, Google Docs, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
• Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
• Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
