Job description

Middle School Science Teacher

Position Summary:

Burr Ridge Community Consolidated School District 180 is seeking a highly qualified and student-centered Middle School Science Teacher to join the instructional team at Burr Ridge Middle School. The successful candidate will provide engaging, standards-aligned science instruction within a departmentalized middle school setting and foster a learning environment that promotes curiosity, critical thinking, inquiry, collaboration, and scientific problem-solving.

The Middle School Science Teacher will design and implement rigorous learning experiences aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), utilize data to inform instruction, and collaborate with colleagues to support the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based science instruction aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
  2. Create a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning and achievement.
  3. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, hands-on investigations, laboratory experiences, and technology tools to engage students in scientific inquiry.
  4. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners.
  5. Assess student progress using formative and summative assessment practices and utilize data to guide instructional decisions.
  6. Maintain accurate student records, grades, and progress reports in accordance with district expectations.
  7. Collaborate with grade-level teams, special education staff, instructional coaches, and administrators to support student success.
  8. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
  9. Participate in professional learning activities and district initiatives designed to improve teaching and learning.
  10. Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community members.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or designee.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) required.
  • Appropriate middle school science endorsement or secondary science endorsement required.
  • Knowledge of Illinois Learning Standards and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Proof of negative TB test.
  • Successful completion of required background check and fingerprinting through the Regional Office of Education.

  • Location: Burr Ridge Middle School
  • Salary and benefits shall be in accordance with the CCSD 180 Collective Bargaining Agreement and commensurate with experience, education, and applicable certifications.
