Summary:
Job Summary: The Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) Implementation Nurse Scientist is a system-level nursing leader responsible for translating evidence into sustained practice across Rush University System for Health. The role leads the implementation, evaluation, and long-term sustainment of evidence-based nursing practice across hospitals and clinical settings, using implementation science methodologies to reduce variation, improve outcomes, and strengthen clinical reliability.
This position integrates clinical implementation leadership with academic rigor, enabling Rush to operationalize implementation science as a core nursing capability. The EBP Implementation Nurse Scientist contributes to practice-based learning, evaluation, and dissemination that informs system improvement, supports decision-making, and advances nursing practice. The role partners with nursing executives, nurse leaders, frontline clinicians, and interdisciplinary stakeholders to design, execute, and embed practice change aligned with system priorities, and serves as a system resource for nursing excellence, quality improvement, and innovation, with accountability for driving measurable and sustained improvement across system nursing priorities.

Required Job Qualifications
•Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree required
•Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Illinois required (or eligibility for Illinois RN licensure)
•Minimum of 10 years of progressively advanced nursing experience, including leadership roles in clinical practice, quality improvement, evidence-based practice, or implementation science
•Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based practice and implementation science, including leading the implementation, evaluation and sustainment of practice change across complex healthcare environments
•Formal training or certification in implementation science, quality improvement, or improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, Implementation Science, DMAIC or equivalent) required
•Proven ability to lead system-level change, including translating organizational priorities into unit-level action and sustaining improvements over time
•Advanced skill in interpreting outcome and process data to identify performance gaps, prioritize improvement opportunities and evaluate impact
•Experience working within an academic health system, integrated delivery system, or learning health system model required
•Demonstrated change leadership and facilitation skills, including coaching nurse leaders and interdisciplinary teams through practice transformation
•Strong communication, collaboration, and influence skills, with the ability to work effectively with executives, nurse leaders, frontline clinicians, and interdisciplinary partners
•Ability to function independently with a high degree of judgment and autonomy, managing multiple system priorities and competing demands with minimal supervision
•Demonstrated commitment to nursing excellence, quality, safety, and continuous learning

•Demonstrated experience contributing to practice-based evaluation, learning, or dissemination related to nursing or healthcare improvement
•Prior experience supporting Magnet™, Pathway to Excellence™, or comparable regulatory or accreditation readiness initiatives through evidence-based practice implementation

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities
1.Provides system-level leadership for the implementation, evaluation, and sustainment of evidence-based nursing practice across Rush University System for Health, supporting spread and scale of evidence-based practices across hospitals and clinical settings.
2.Leads the design, execution, and monitoring of system-level implementation strategies using implementation science methodologies to reduce variation, improve clinical outcomes, and strengthen reliability of nursing practice.
3.Partners with nursing executives, directors, nurse managers, assistant nurse managers, clinical nurse specialists, educators, and interdisciplinary leaders to translate system priorities into actionable, unit-level practice change.
4.Conducts systemwide, hospital-wide, and unit-level assessments of performance, readiness, and implementation gaps; synthesizes outcome and process data to inform prioritization of high-impact improvement opportunities.
5.Mentors clinical leaders and frontline teams through all phases of implementation, including problem identification, EBP intervention selection, execution, evaluation, and long-term sustainment to build local capability to lead and sustain evidence-based practice.
6.Develops, implements, and evaluates standardized implementation tools, workflows, and strategies to support consistent adoption of evidence-based practices across the system.
7.Ensures improvements are sustained over time through structured monitoring, auditing and feedback, and reinforcement mechanisms that support clinical reliability.
8.Serves as an organizational expert in evidence-based practice and implementation science, providing consultation and guidance on practice change, quality improvement, and clinical innovation initiatives.
9.Integrates academic rigor into clinical implementation work by evaluating implementation strategies, generating practice-based evidence, and contributing to dissemination efforts that inform system improvement and advance nursing practice.
10.Collaborates with interdisciplinary partners, including safety, quality, analytics, and informatics, to embed evidence-based practices into clinical workflows, decision support tools, and measurement systems aligned with organizational goals and regulatory expectations.
11.Participates in and leads system committees, workgroups, and special initiatives related to nursing practice, quality, safety, and innovation.
12.Represents Rush Nursing in internal and external forums as requested, maintaining awareness of emerging evidence, implementation science advancements, and best practices relevant to nursing and healthcare delivery.
13.Performs related duties as assigned in support of system nursing priorities and organizational objectives.
