Job description

The Department of Kinesiology at Lipscomb University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Sport Management, beginning August 1, 2026. This is a 10-month appointment with a 4/4 teaching load (with potential to adjunct over the summer), serving as the lead faculty member and primary face of our undergraduate Sport Management program. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in program growth, student mentoring, and collaborating with the director of our graduate Sport Analytics program on our COSMA accreditation efforts while contributing to both undergraduate and graduate sport analytics programs.
About the Opportunity
This position offers an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of sport management education in one of the nation's most dynamic sport markets. Nashville's booming sport industry provides unparalleled opportunities for student internships, faculty research partnerships, and program innovation. Our growing programs currently serve 35-40 undergraduate students (with potential for 60) and 15-20 graduate students (with potential for 40), offering significant room for program development and student impact.
Primary Responsibilities
Teaching & Curriculum Development (Primary Focus)
  • Teach undergraduate courses including Sport Law, NIL & Intellectual Properties, Introduction to Coaching, Facility and Event Management, and other sport management core courses
  • Supervise practicum and internship experiences for undergraduate students
  • Contribute to graduate sport analytics program instruction as needed
  • Develop innovative course offerings and potential concentrations/tracks for both undergraduate and graduate programs
  • Maintain excellence in teaching with a 4/4 course load (fall/spring)

Student Leadership and Mentoring
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and "face" of the undergraduate Sport Management program
  • Provide comprehensive academic advising and career mentoring for sport management students
  • Lead student recruitment efforts and program promotion activities
  • Foster student professional development and industry connections

Program Leadership & Accreditation
  • Lead COSMA (Commission on Sport Management Accreditation) accreditation efforts from initial stages through completion
  • Conduct curriculum mapping, documentation preparation, and accreditation site visit coordination
  • Collaborate with department leadership on strategic program development and growth initiatives
  • Represent the program at professional conferences and industry events

Research & Professional Engagement
  • Maintain scholarly productivity appropriate for tenure-track expectations (teaching-focused position)
  • Pursue research in any area of sport management (excluding sport psychology)
  • Leverage Nashville's sport industry for research partnerships and applied projects
  • Engage with professional and collegiate sport organizations in the Nashville area

Service & Community Engagement
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university committee assignments
  • Contribute to the university's mission through adherence to Lipscomb's values and Centering Core
  • Engage with local sport industry professionals and organizations

Required Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree (PhD) and/or Juris Doctor (JD) highly preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in sport management education and practice
  • Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and student mentoring

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
