Owen Tree Service Inc, an Employee Owned Company is a Green Industry organization focused on delivering high-quality Landscape Maintenance Services, Lawn Weed & Feed Services, Tree Services for Residencial, Commercial, City, County, and State Governments across the northern vicinity of SE Michigan. As the company continues to grow and evolve, the organization is seeking an experienced and operationally focused Chief Operating Officer to lead operational strategy, optimize business performance, and support scalable growth.

Salary: Negotiable depending on education, degrees and experience

Are you an experienced operational leader who thrives on building high-performing teams, improving processes, and driving sustainable growth?
We are seeking a dynamic Chief Operating Officer (COO) to help lead and scale a well-established, employee-owned company serving the Green Industry. This is a key executive leadership position responsible for translating strategic goals into operational success while developing a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
As the operational leader of the organization, you will partner directly with the President, CFO, and Senior Leadership Team to guide daily operations, develop future leaders, and position the company for long-term growth.

What You'll DoOperational Leadership

·         Lead and support Department Managers across all operational divisions

·         Align daily operations with company goals, budgets, and strategic initiatives

·         Develop forecasting, planning, and resource allocation processes

·         Identify and implement efficiencies that improve productivity and profitability

Team Development

·         Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing leaders and employees

·         Foster a culture of accountability, communication, and continuous improvement

·         Coach managers and build leadership depth throughout the organization

·         Strengthen employee engagement within our ESOP ownership culture

Performance & Growth

·         Develop KPIs, scorecards, and operational dashboards

·         Monitor performance and drive execution of company objectives

·         Lead cross-functional initiatives that support growth and operational excellence

·         Turn strategic vision into measurable results

Safety & Compliance

·         Champion company-wide safety initiatives

·         Ensure operational compliance, fleet management, and industry standards

·         Maintain TCIA accreditation and regulatory requirements

What We're Looking For

·         Proven experience leading operations within the Green Industry, landscape, tree care, construction, or related service-based businesses

·         Demonstrated success managing managers and multiple departments

·         Strong financial acumen including budgeting, forecasting, and operational planning

·         Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills

·         Ability to build trust, hold teams accountable, and drive results

·         Passion for creating efficient systems and developing people

Preferred

·         Green industry experience, landscape (strongest area), tree care, and arboriculture

·         Experience leading organizations through growth and operational scaling

·         Familiarity with ESOP companies is a plus
