Job description

Do you want to be part of Amazon's founding business and work with the world's most influential publishers? Come join the team that started it all! The Books team is looking for an innovative, results-oriented, customer-centric self-starter and team player to help grow our digital books business. This Content Acquisition Manager will own strategic relationships with Australian and international publishers, and help define and execute the content strategy for Kindle Unlimited and Kindle ALC - including subscription models, lending programs, and digital selection growth - across the Australian marketplace. The ideal candidate has solid business judgment and an analytical mindset, with a track record of successful content or commercial negotiations, strong relationship management, and a demonstrated ability to launch and scale new business models, initiatives, and products. This person uses data and complex analytics to guide decision-making, dives deep into the Australian digital books landscape, and thinks creatively about new opportunities to grow readership and delight customers.
Key job responsibilities
Own end-to-end identification, evaluation, negotiation, and management of content partnership deals with Australian publishers, independently driving deals that grow Kindle ALC and Kindle Unlimited selection and delight Australian customers
Act as a subject matter expert for Australian digital books, contributing meaningfully to the Content Acquisition team's strategy around content acquisition, subscription and lending models, promotional programs, and Kindle readership growth in Australia
Independently develop clear business and product requirements for Kindle ALC and Kindle Unlimited initiatives, proactively prioritize competing needs, and manage milestones while effectively aligning key stakeholders
Define, track, and continuously improve selection, operational, and business metrics - including subscriber growth, title availability, and qualified borrows - holding yourself and partners accountable to results
Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders (e.g. product management, legal, marketing, and global Content Acquisition teams) to adapt and land global programs effectively in Australia
Prepare and deliver crisp, data-backed business reviews to senior Amazon leadership and publishing partners, clearly communicating performance, risks, and opportunities for Kindle ALC and Kindle Unlimited
Proactively identify and drive opportunities for process innovation and automation in content licensing, ingestion workflows, and subscriber engagement
Apply rigorous data analysis to navigate ambiguous problems, synthesizing insights into actionable recommendations and influencing cross-functional teams without needing direct authority
Contribute to and execute against the Australian Digital Books P&L, demonstrating a strong understanding of local market trends - including competitive dynamics, seasonality, and reader behavior - and their impact on business performance
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or above
- 3+ years of work experience
- Experience in written and oral communication, including the ability to communicate with all levels in the organization (technical, business, executive)
- Experience delivering cross-functional projects and working with partner teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
- Experience using data and trends to articulate business needs or equivalent
- Experience negotiating complex deals with customers and partners or equivalent
- Experience working with, presenting to and influencing senior executives up to VP level
- Experience in a content acquisition or business development department of a media company
- Experience using strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Experience with MS Office, in particular MS Excel
- Consulting, finance, banking or prior experience in a problem-solving or analytical role preferred
- Knowledge of or experience in publishing or other media industries a plus
- 1+ years of negotiation and third party relationship management experience
- Experience in working with AI tools
- Clear passion for books, authors and readers
