We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join our Corporate Office in Houston, TX. This individual will oversee the accounting operations for our portfolio of multifamily communities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and timely month-end closings. The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, and experienced with AppFolio Property Manager.

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting functions for multiple apartment communities and other managed properties. This position ensures the accuracy of financial statements, supervises accounting processes, assists with audits, and provides financial support to corporate leadership and property management teams.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Prepare and review monthly financial statements for multiple properties.
• Manage the month-end and year-end closing process.
• Reconcile bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and balance sheet accounts.
• Review accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions for accuracy.
• Ensure accurate recording of journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries.
• Maintain property budgets and assist with budget preparation and forecasting.
• Monitor cash flow and review operating expenses for accuracy.
• Analyze financial reports and identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
• Work closely with Property Managers to ensure financial accuracy and resolve accounting issues.
• Assist with annual audits, tax preparation, and lender reporting requirements.
• Maintain compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee security deposit accounting and owner distributions when applicable.
• Review and maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
• Assist with onboarding new properties into AppFolio.
• Develop and improve accounting procedures and internal controls.
• Prepare special financial reports and analysis requested by ownership and executive leadership.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff while promoting a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in property management or real estate.
• 2+ years of supervisory or management experience preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of AppFolio Property Manager is highly preferred.
• Knowledge of GAAP accounting principles.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive financial information.
